I am starting to realize that many people are taking this stuff way to seriously and are forgetting the original aspect of the SCA is to have fun and not get hurt, and, in the process learn about the past by role playing. I have fun at events, research (all outside of the SCA) I take seriously (too seriously sometimes). Learning about the past IMHO does not come from role-playing but from genuine academic research and application of accepted methodologies. I have only "learned" in the SCA from people who truly investigated topics in an academic manner (many don't even know that they are really doing academic research). Sorry, I have come to understand most of what and why my professors drilled into me and find most SCA "experts" lacking (pardon to those I do hold in high esteem). I learn little from most SCA activities other than how to have fun wearing medieval style clothing and meeting a few dedicated, intelligent and knowledgable people. It is from those few (laurels and not) that I learn. Not a problem, I respect your comments. You have always presented well thought out posts and I hold (nor would hide) any comments you make. Although not always in agreement, you have provided much food for thought. As one who has little tact, your feeling that you have commited a faux pas is unwarranted in my opinion. You may be surprised how many do. In 4 of the 6 NGs I read, I do read every post. r.o.s. is large volume and fairly diverse themed, so I drop entire threads about themes I am not into, but do read all the rest. In the 6th NG I drop the regular large flame war threads. But there I am thinking about dropping the entire NG. -- private: Neil.Franklin.remove.this@ccw.ch http://www.ccw.ch/Neil.Franklin/ office: franklin.remove.this@arch.ethz.ch http://caad.arch.ethz.ch/~franklin/ Can a Microsoft allergy be claimed on job health insurence?
