Why is that so? I know the system has it's flaws, but is it not the most popular system out there? Now, before I hear a few folks scream out "Popular doesn't always mean better,", hear me out. I've played in a couple Rolemaster campaigns and I've got to say that it's nothing but a bunch of overweight men who dream of one day getting a woman. I mean, these guys, while smart, stare at charts all day for christsakes! And don't even get me started on those who LARP for Vampire games. Talk about freaks, "Hi, I'm a vampire and I'm named Lestat. I also happen to have a taste for human blood." Yeah, dood, that's really original. The point is, even though DnD has such a broken system(as of 2nd Edition, I won't count the third as I've never seen it and reserve judgement until I have), it draws the most players. Why, I remember in my college days when certain RPGs were cool. The Vampire players were all a bunch of goth wannabes. The Rulemaster......oops....I meant Rolemaster players, slaved over charts all day. And the guys who played Amber, FUDGE, and Feng Shui all thought they would be the next big actor to hit Hollywood this side of Humphrey Bogart. But never did I see such a VARIETY of people playing an RPG as I did with DnD. DnD is fairly simple, if awkward. It allows folks to socialize as well as have a few drinks instead of trying to be too serious(try joking around in a Vampire game. Those folks take their games way too seriously.) The fact that there's a dungeon crawl going on means little- it's all about fun. One time I met a nice young girl(age 18, straight out of high school) who had huge misconceptions about RPGs. She thought AD&Ders were nothing but a group of geeks and Satan worshippers(I dare not say what she thought of Vampire players.) Anyways, I yelled at her and told her the errors of her ways. At first she rebeled but given time and information she soon opened her mind. That's when I finally took her to her first AD&D session. She had a blast(over many Bacardi and Cokes, if you know what I mean) and soon changed her mind entirely. After the session she had tears in her eyes and told me that she was sorry for thinking that I was such a person to worship Satan. She said she didn't know how to show how full of remorse she really was, so I told her to bend over. And as I entered her tight poop loop and felt the flesh stretch and the ripping of tendons, I too had a tear in my eyes. But it wasn't for any sin I commited. It was for all my brothers, the lonely who belong to a secret society which tend to sleep with books instead of members of the opposite sex. It was tears for those who in their pain refuse to understand that RPGs are about fun and socializing instead of trying to become the most powerful(like GURPS players.) Only AD&D is able to attract ALL people of the world as one under the RPG banner and as such they tend to get laid much more often. DESMOND PEOPLEZ ###### From: "Deirdre M. Yeah, that's why everyone at my last Transylvania Chronicles session cracked up and couldn't stop when the Assamite player said "These roads are fraught with peril." You'd be surprised at how much joking goes on at Vampire games. I think my favorite was the Ventrue prince in the local LARP who claimed personal responsibility for The Rock speaking at the Republican convention (in his words, "I. Am. That. Good."). I'd try to avoid pigeonholing gamer humor based on the games we play. Solely speaking as someone who's played AD&D and Vampire both. :-) -- Deird'Re M. I really like how you equate Roleplaying to sexual activity... I guess you truely understand how our mythic fantasy worlds are really just sexually repressed desires taken out with a bunch of dice... I personally get a hell of a lot of satisfaction from the grabbing of a bunch of D10s and shaking them until I can cum off with a success. Ohh baby dont get me started, all I got right now is 2 d6s and they just dont please me anymore. Shit, Now I gotta go to alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.teen.girls.taking.it.up.the.dirt.trail just so I can imagine myself shoving my little 3" dick up some teenagers asshole. To make the experience even better Im gonna masterbate in my own feces. WAIT A SECOND... I WAS WAY TO INTO YOUR CHARACTER What the hells wrong with me, I should be yelling at you. Buddy your one shot at getting a nice innocent girl drunk and fucking her and you FUCKED IT UP!!! I guess your either too feebleminded (5th level spell if Im correct) to know where to stick your dick, or your inherently gay (not that theres anything wrong with that, but if you are gay your going after the wrong people). You probably should have had a talk with your father about sexuality (or maybe if you did you shouldn't, perhaps thats what got you into this mess... did he make you call him Papa Noel?) You see Harry Potter... err Henry Cotter, what you have is called a penis... or a fuck stick depending on who you ask... it goes in a womans vagina, also known as pussy. The entire goal for most people is to reach a sexual orgasm... or cum. But in your case we will just concentrate on getting your watery piss/cum out of your tiny dick. Im sorry I shouldn't have been making assumptions, you as a newsgroup poster and a troll must have a gigantic 10" erection (probably have one right now from reading my post). But most girls find that anal sex is quite painful if the man has anything more then a toothpick between his legs. Anyway... enough flaming Ill now simply answer your post in a real mannor Buddy, If I wana socialize I really dont need a tool such as D&D to help facilitate it. In fact, roleplaying is IMO a really stupid way to met people, I cant imagine a worse possible way to pick someone up then by making a seduction roll. "Hey Baby, I just rolled a natural 20 to get you in the sac... come suck my dick!" And another thing... If you have booze and a place, have a party, dont roleplay... unless you are a true geek... the REAL reason to roleplay is to tell stories with your friends... in the same mannor as sitting around a campfire telling ghost stories when you were little Henry Cotter wrote: > Looking at several RPG related NGs I've come to find out that DnD isn't > all that popular(obviously, I'm excluding the fine folks in RGFD.) If I'm looking for some fun joking around stuff I'll play changling, if I'm looking to play a merc and kick some ass I'll play shadowrun... and that suits me just fine. Some like the idea of stomping around a dungeon and mindlessly slaughtering everything within it, regardless of why they were there in the first place. Others like the idea of a more in-depth roleplaying experience, and feel that the AD&D system is a little too far out there to allow that sort of game, hence why White Wolf created the Storyteller system in the first place. > That's when I finally took her to her first AD&D session. AD&D, like any other RPG, carries with it that rather unfortunate undertone of geekiness, which all us roleplayers have to endure. If you're wanting to get laid, you don't usually go to a roleplaying group to do so, but a nightclub. If you want to roleplay, you don't usually keep your eyes open for a quick bit of 'poon-tang', just in case. This was, IMHO, a funny post, and also an 'eye' opener... ;-) > DESMOND PEOPLEZ RPG_Pro / Mike ###### From: Lamia Newsgroups: rec.games.frp.misc,rec.games.frp.dnd,alt.games.whitewolf Subject: Re: DnD rulez and College Cornholing Followup-To: alt.games.whitewolf Date: 14 Aug 2000 16:07:19 GMT Organization: EnterAct Corp. Although it's perfectly reasonable for someone to reminisce about playing Feng Shui at university, it still seems like a more recent game that doesn't fit with the image of someone seeking a return to the "good old days" of AD&D. Why >is that so? I know the system has it's flaws, but is it not the most >popular system out there? A few points. 1. DnD has always been the 800-lbs gorilla of the industry. It was the first, it was heavily supported, and most of us old farts got our start playing it. 2. Many people turned on DnD due to TSR's policies. By the time of Second Edition, it was obvious that quality had been thrown out the window in favor of a "churn it out and ship it" philosophy. 3. DnD has a perceived munchkin problem, mostly due to the fact that we all played it as kids, and slaughtering monsters was a big part of the game. It does show its war gaming roots rather prominently. Given these ideas, I think 3E is doing a good job of both repositioning DnD for a new generation of gamers, while luring those it lost over the last decade back into the fold. -- Douglas E. Talk about freaks, "Hi, I'm a vampire and I'm named Lestat. I also happen to have a taste for human blood." Yeah, dood, that's really original. >> I am saying this as a D&D fan- Don't confuse the quality of games with the people who play them. RM and VAMPIRE may attract some folks whom you see as odd, but of course one gamer calling another group of gamers "geeks" is a bit like one alcoholic telling another "man, you really have a problem." (No, gamers are not like alcoholics, except of course the alcoholic gamers.) You have to analyze the system and the game itself. Do the rules effectively simulate the setting? Are they intuitive and fun or clunky and slapped-together? I know some M:tG tournament players can be profoundly overcompetitive, but that hasn't put me off the game itself. Plus, overgeneralizing is just plain dumb. Not all Vampire players are goths (and not all goths are necessarily obsessive or neurotic, etc.), not all RM players have an unhealthy obsession with math, etc. Any game can be about socializing and having fun. That's what RPGs do. They bring folks together, and even the lamest game on the planet can do that. ###### From: acear7106@my-deja.com Newsgroups: rec.games.frp.misc Subject: Re: DnD rulez and College Cornholing Date: Wed, 16 Aug 2000 12:36:08 GMT Organization: Deja.com - Before you buy.
