It's Da BOMB! Totally Phat. The Cat's pajamas. I like the way the movie opened with an homage to the great Tony Randall film, "The Circus of Dr. Lao". The obvious references to the Ring as the drug ecstasy may have made it too topical for some, but I've heard that in the online version of the book, the ring is used for date rape, so it fits. The idea of having 9 Darth Vaders on horseback is way cool. I could almost hear the oxygen unit going. The other characters all had that medieval feel that made me think, "Wow, this Tolkien guy is almost as good as Marion Zimmer Bradley or Terry Brooks!" The special effects were really good, they put Xena to shame. One thing they should watch out for in the next movie though, be careful with the names. Khazad Dum sounds too much like Zahadum and unless Gandalf is going to come back as Sheridan or Sinclair, they should try to be original. Also, what is it with the dwarf? He doesn't sing, he has no hammer, no cute name. As for the elves in the Keebler forest, well, let's just say that they look a little bit fey to me, you know, light in the loafers shall we say. So, all in all, as long as they avoid having Aragon imitate Lorne Greene in Battlestar Galactica too much, the next films should be a nice addition to such films as Legend, Krull and Dungeon Master, the pantheon of the best ;-) ###### From: "chuck" Newsgroups: rec.arts.books.tolkien,alt.fan.tolkien References: <3c2c4369.6815139@netnews.worldnet.att.net> Subject: Re: Confused person's view of the film Lines: 43 X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2600.0000 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2600.0000 Message-ID: Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 20:47:33 GMT NNTP-Posting-Host: 24.178.68.40 X-Complaints-To: abuse@home.net X-Trace: news1.rdc1.ne.home.com 1009486053 24.178.68.40 (Thu, 27 Dec 2001 12:47:33 PST) NNTP-Posting-Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 12:47:33 PST Organization: Excite@Home - The Leader in Broadband http://home.com/faster Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!pfaff.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!news-ge.switch.ch!news.maxwell.syr.edu!wn4feed!wn2feed!worldnet.att.net!24.0.0.38!newshub2.rdc1.sfba.home.com!news.home.com!news1.rdc1.ne.home.com.POSTED!not-for-mail Xref: chonsp.franklin.ch rec.arts.books.tolkien:67225 Consider me rolling on the floor, laughing my ass off... :-) wrote in message news:3c2c4369.6815139@netnews.worldnet.att.net... > Well, first of all, the movie really Rocks.
