Not really - the first five, with the exception of "The Lost Road", the first part of volume V, deal exclusively with First Age stuff. Then, 6-9, again with the exception of "Notion Club Papers" deal with LoTR, then back to SIlm for 10-11, but 12 is a kind of a "misc" volume more than anything else - it doesn't really fit anywhere. Since 10 and 11 also contain one-of-a-kind stuff, the best solution IMO is to split up vol.9 ("The end of the Third Age", which already exists as a single volume, and "Notion club papers" proper, which could go either after vol.5, or with the final volumes). Then the second half of HoME IX would be put into The Complete HoME, Vol. 3, thus balancing things even more.
