It is interesting that Tolkien himself possessed a measure of such prescience: One commonly noted example of this is the mention in 'The Notion Club Papers' of a very great storm, which actually occurred within about a month of the date Tolkien wrote. However, I have recently come across another, more compelling example: *Tolkien foresaw PJ's LotR movie, and the changes to the story that it involves.* This is amazing, when you think of it, that a man should have knowledge of an event that will occur over 60 years in the future. I am referring, of course, to the quote from a letter he wrote to Stanley Unwin, in 1938: "Even the Christmas vacation will be darkened by New Zealand scripts." (Letters: 34) -- Andróg "Fela bith on Westwegum werum uncúthra, wundra and wihta, wlitescéne land, eardgeard elfa, and ésa bliss." ###### From: Tangoguru Newsgroups: rec.arts.books.tolkien Subject: Re: Tolkien's foresight Date: Mon, 04 Sep 2000 10:04:11 GMT Organization: Deja.com - Before you buy.
