Why does Z put beaks and feathers on Orcs!? (Orcs is not a form of Auks.) The Orcs are definitely stated to be corruptions of the 'human' form seen in Elves and Men. They are (or were) squat, broad, flat-nosed, sallow-skinned, with wide mouths and slant eyes: in fact degraded and repulsive versions of the (to Europeans) least lovely of Mongol-types." JRRT, Letters #210 Looking at the orcs in the preview they seem to be; Of the 'human' form (2 arms, 2 legs, head, et cetera) Flat nosed Sallow skinned Degraded, repulsive and corrupted They don't seem to be particularly slant-eyed or wide-mouthed and they have strange ears. Overall they seem to be fairly accurate to the description above. The ears were not specified and the eyes and mouth are differences which I can certainly live with. It is even possible that they used that description and just didn't make the slant-eyes / wide-mouths as 'pronounced' as I would expect. > Maybe what you meant was, "like I always imagined Tolkien's > Orcs." > Otherwise, SPANK for hubris! And see my post elsewhere on the board re Boromir & the Ring - his growing lust for the Ring has to be highlighted to moviegoers slightly more than it is in the book I think. In the book he mentions the Ring once at the Council of Elrond and is corrected by Elrond; has a slip of the tongue (in Lorien?) about throwing it away that he covers up by pretending he means 'throwing away men' to escort the Ring into Mordor; starts to show psychological disorder as they drift down the Great River (gnawing nails, driving the boat up close to the one with Frodo in it); and then attempts to take the Ring on Amon Hen. To convey this in film, I think PJ has to bring it more to the average punter's attention. I was thinking that this might be a visual representation of the dream that Boromir had about the ring in Gondor that convinced him to go to Rivendell. The mountains in the background could be the White Mountains around Minas Tirith. I doubt that in that dream, he would have seen the ring on a chain though. I do agree with your other comments however, about the need to show Boromir falling under the ring's influence.
