Well, if you're planning to spend much time on this newsgroup, then I humbly recommend reading the Tolkien Newsgroups FAQ, on the web at http://home.uchicago.edu/~sbjensen/Tolkien/TolkNgFaq.html (I'm also about to post it to the groups, so you could just sit around and wait a little.) The older Tolkien FAQs by William Loos are very good as well; they are posted regularly, or you can find them on the web at http://www.daimi.aau.dk/~bouvin/tolkienfaq.html Be warned, however, that this site has silently combined the Tolkien FAQ and the Tolkien LessFAQ into one document, together with some other information.
