I've been following this thread and can't resist any longer. Has anyone read the archive of the more ridiculous theories that have shown up on this ng, including Saruman's equivalent of the Ringwraiths? It still makes me giggle to think of it. :) Could someone provide the URL for those who haven't seen it yet? I assume you are talking about "The Tolkien Crackpot Theories Page": http://www.speakeasy.org/~ohh/theories.htm My favourite is definitely 12 "Why The Elves And Dwarves Don't Get Along": http://www.speakeasy.org/~ohh/cannibal.htm Thanks for reminding me of these, re-reading was fun, again. -- Neil Franklin, neil@franklin.ch.remove http://neil.franklin.ch/ ###### From: "Conrad Dunkerson" Newsgroups: rec.arts.books.tolkien Subject: Re: Saruman Ring-Maker Date: Tue, 9 Nov 1999 19:41:39 -0500 Organization: AT&T WorldNet Services Lines: 11 Message-ID: <80af57$46i$1@bgtnsc02.worldnet.att.net> References: <19991108221321.07548.00004421@ng-ch1.aol.com> <38287FFD.37D76BCA@hotmail.com> <6uemdzguls.fsf@chonsp.franklin.ch> <3828B16F.D6B0A96B@hotmail.com> Reply-To: "Conrad Dunkerson" NNTP-Posting-Host: 12.79.28.150 X-Trace: bgtnsc02.worldnet.att.net 942194663 4306 12.79.28.150 (10 Nov 1999 00:44:23 GMT) X-Complaints-To: abuse@worldnet.att.net NNTP-Posting-Date: 10 Nov 1999 00:44:23 GMT X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2314.1300 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.00.2314.1300 Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!pfaff.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!news-ge.switch.ch!news.maxwell.syr.edu!wn4feed!worldnet.att.net!wnmaster1!not-for-mail Creole wrote in message news:3828B16F.D6B0A96B@hotmail.com... > "If LOTR were run like RABT," which had me literally laughing out > loud. My personal favorite. Though I'd have to go back and re-read the old posts to figure out who the prototypes for all the characters were (beyond the obvious)... it's been a couple of years. ###### Message-ID: <3828B16F.D6B0A96B@hotmail.com> From: Creole X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.6 [en] (WinNT; I) X-Accept-Language: en MIME-Version: 1.0 Newsgroups: rec.arts.books.tolkien Subject: Re: Saruman Ring-Maker References: <19991108221321.07548.00004421@ng-ch1.aol.com> <38287FFD.37D76BCA@hotmail.com> <6uemdzguls.fsf@chonsp.franklin.ch> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Lines: 27 Date: Wed, 10 Nov 1999 01:42:39 +0200 NNTP-Posting-Host: 192.115.22.31 X-Complaints-To: abuse@verio.net X-Trace: iad-read.news.verio.net 942190951 192.115.22.31 (Tue, 09 Nov 1999 23:42:31 GMT) NNTP-Posting-Date: Tue, 09 Nov 1999 23:42:31 GMT Organization: Verio Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!pfaff.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!newsfeed-zh.ip-plus.net!news.ip-plus.net!News.Amsterdam.UnisourceCS!golmote!isdnet!howland.erols.net!peer.news.verio.net.MISMATCH!iad-peer.news.verio.net!news.verio.net!iad-read.news.verio.net.POSTED!not-for-mail Neil Franklin wrote: > > I've been following this thread and can't resist any longer. I also seriously recommend "Lossiel," although I admit it took me a couple of paragraphs to figure out where it was going. Thanks for the URL, and yet another runthrough of some of the funniest things I've read. Maybe they should be updated! Arwen's Girdle springs instantly to mind. ;) Creole ###### Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!usenet From: Neil Franklin Newsgroups: rec.arts.books.tolkien Subject: Re: Saruman Ring-Maker Date: 10 Nov 1999 20:22:03 +0100 Organization: My own Private Self Lines: 15 Sender: neil@chonsp.franklin.ch Message-ID: <6uyac6ywx0.fsf@chonsp.franklin.ch> References: <19991108221321.07548.00004421@ng-ch1.aol.com> <38287FFD.37D76BCA@hotmail.com> <6uemdzguls.fsf@chonsp.franklin.ch> <3828B16F.D6B0A96B@hotmail.com> X-Newsreader: Gnus v5.3/Emacs 19.34 Creole writes: > > Neil Franklin wrote: > > > My favourite is definitely 12 "Why The Elves And Dwarves Don't Get Along" > > My own personal favs are, as I said, "A Theory about Grima of Rohan," as well as > "If LOTR were run like RABT," which had me literally laughing out loud. Thanks for reminding me of that one. I re-read it and have to change my favourite to that one. Absolutely fitting newsgroup parody. -- Neil Franklin, neil@franklin.ch.remove http://neil.franklin.ch/
