Although not turned on in the EXEC as delivered by DEC, there was a command history facility. EXECED.REL and EXECHS.REL should be present on the Tops-20 distribution tape (along with the modules providing PCL and MIC). -- Rich Alderson alderson+news@panix.com "You get what anybody gets. If it's there, you still need to enable it... try these, which can be put in your LOGIN.CMD file if they work: @set history 100 @set command-editor edit-mode emacs @set command-editor entered ^P ;; (control-P or whatever you prefer) Then you can use ^P to go back up thru the history list, just like tcsh. One caveat: this only works well when the system knows your terminal type (use "TER ?" to see a list, "TERM " to set it). One of the VT types may work for whatever terminal emulation you are using; maybe someone will now get around to adding "xterm"! --Ken ###### Message-ID: <3BFCE557.89D39C0@trailing-edge.com> Date: Thu, 22 Nov 2001 11:45:27 -0400 From: Tim Shoppa Organization: Trailing Edge Technology X-Mailer: Mozilla 3.03Gold (X11; I; OpenVMS V7.2 AlphaServer 1200 5/533 4MB) MIME-Version: 1.0 Newsgroups: alt.sys.pdp10 Subject: Re: TOPS-20 'doskey' equivalent? Even better is to buy a LK-450AA which is a DEC keyboard layout (including both "-" and "," on the keypad) with a PS/2 connector. I may have remapped some keys to make it easier, but I believe xterm by default is a pretty reasonable representation of a vt100 - or actually ANSI But where the hell is that GOLD key ? :) aak ###### From: "Zane H. Or, just try this ftp://zane.brouhaha.com/pub/vms/vt100.sh it looks to have been written by Geoff Kingsmill. I use it all the time, and other than missing F17-F20, I find it does an excellent job. Far better than 'NiftyTelnet' is doing on this Mac I'm typing on. Warning, you might need to do a little tweaking of the script, I think the right and left arrows are backwards. > Even better is to buy a LK-450AA which is a DEC keyboard layout > (including both "-" and "," on the keypad) with a PS/2 connector. I've been meaning to plug one into my Linux box and give it a try. Is there anything special you've got to do to get the mappings set right?
