The short list includes Bob Supnik, Tim Shoppa, Ken Harrenstien and Tim Stark. The last few months have been truly profound and I thank you all. Now the question: Has anyone successfully applied the TSU4 tapes to their TOPS-20 v7 system? Where does one get the keys? It seems that each update package requires keys. If you did update your system, can you post a short blurb about what you did? When I tried to decrypt the tcp package, only a small subset of files was extracted. thanks --tom ###### From: jmfbahciv@aol.com Newsgroups: alt.sys.pdp10 Subject: Re: TSU update of tops-20 7 Date: Sat, 17 Nov 01 09:42:02 GMT Organization: UltraNet Communications, Inc. Wasn't there a blurb about how to do this about...hmm...six months ago? /BAH Subtract a hundred and four for e-mail. ###### From: "Zane H. Also see the documentation included on the TCP/IP distribution tape though since it predates TSU it talks about autopatch. The keys are in the last save set. On Tim's site it is labeled: BB-EV83B-BM TCP/IP-20 V4.0 DISTR 16MT9 (longer than the other one?) [The V4.0 refers to the TCP/IP version. This is for TOPS-20 V7.0. There appear to be other versions of this tape but they don't include the prebuilt monitors.] As the TCPIP.DOC file mentions, the key used for updates is the same name as the .REL file: T20AN.KEY in the sources save set on the above tape. Here is what I posted in July: The *.KEY files are used by TSU to decrypt updates. They were mostly distributed on the tape with layered products. Exceptions were if no new product tape was shipped in that time frame or if they wrong keys were shipped (I think FORTRAN.) Special key tapes were shipped to entitled customers in these cases. I see Tim has TSU02 and TSU03 tapes for TOPS-20 7.0 up. There were three classess of TSU tapes: TOPS-10 7.04, TOPS-20 4.1, and TOPS-20 7.0. Two of them had four updates, the other only three (I think TOPS-20 4.1.) TSU was the replacement for Autopatch. Unlike Autopatch which like its name implies patched stuff, either source or object, TSU replaced whole files. Thus the key files for layered products. If you didn't have the matching .KEY file, the updates were encrypted garbage. Also, only the most recent TSU tape was needed since it contained all updates from the previous TSU tape. Pity it came at the end but part of the rationale for developing it was the increasing lack of experienced folks at the customer sites who knew how to apply Autopatch. Plus it was easier for us. Enjoy, Sam
