Well, now that we have a plethora of pdp-10 emulators to choose from I think that it's time for me to learn pdp-10 assemply language. So, where can a fella find a downloadable copy of the macro-10 manual (pdf or html formats)? Has anybody scanned in this beast as of yet? I've looked at trailing-edge, etc but to no avail. Well, the best place to find pointers to documentation would be my PDP-10 Emulation web page: http://www.aracnet.com/~healyzh/pdp10emu.html if you look in the documentation section you'll find a pointer to a 'decsystem10 assembly language handbook, third edition, 1973' manual on Al Kosso's site. Unfortunatly this appears to be all that's available online. Nothing about the instruction set, or system calls. The best introduction to assembly language programming on the PDP-10 is Ralph Gorin's "Introduction to DECSYSTEM-20 Assembly Language Programming". It's available ftp://toad.xkl.com/ as postscript files T20ASM[1-7].PS.1, but it's not short, but it teaches all three topics (assembler, instruction set and system calls) ITS has a PDP-10 INFO file, it's available from ftp://ftp.its.oz.org/its/ai/info.tgz as info/pdp-10.14 which is a briefer introduction to the instruction set. The info file format is compatible with GNU Emacs INFO. There's also an info file for MIDAS, my favorite assembler. To the best of my knowledge he took all the documentation which hopefully includes the maintenance manuals. My friend Robert Reid who worked on the development of some part of the KL-10 CPU is no longer interested in talking about the beast or becoming involved in any rescue attempt which is sad as I'm sure he could revitalise it. He was a maintenance engineer on our PDP-6 before DEC transferred him to Marlborough IIRC. Of course will also provide new spool motor drive invertors as well. Last time I checked a couple of local university libraries at one time DEC-10/DEC-20 sites there were copies of MACRO-10 assembler books still showing in the catalogues. I just did a quick search on the library catalog at La Trobe University (http://library.latrobe.edu.au) and found that there are still a number of DECsystem-10 related books that may still be available. La Trobe had a KI-10 for about 10 years. -- Huw Davies | e-mail: Huw.Davies@kerberos.davies.net.au | "If God had wanted soccer played in the | air, the sky would be painted green"
