It seems to work just fine when at the simh 'console', it's just when telnet'd in to one of the DZ11 ports that I'm seeing problems. I did some more experimentation today (to busy burning myself with a soldering iron yesterday), and discovered that I do in fact have the problem under Linux itself, it just isn't as obvious. However, I've come up with a solution (though I'm not happy with it). If I connect at 4800 I'm not getting buffer overflows. Which brings up the question of tweaking the display, the top row of text is about twice the hieght of the bottom row. Somehow I don't thing that's normal! Assuming a real VT100 (not a 220 or later model), and assuming my memory is correct, you will notice on the bottom of the terminal 4 white pegs that may look something like plastic screws. Turning them will prove to be ineffective (I think they may have been slotted). On the side of those pegs are small holes. Put something small and pointed into the hole (dental picks work good for this) and use that to pull the peg out fron the case. They won't come completely out. This should unlock the cover. ###### From: "Zane H. OK, I've got the back two popped out, how on earth do I get the front two out? There isn't any hole that I can see, and they seem to have plastic washers (actually they look to be part of the peg), that prevent getting underneath. I'll admit to being chicken on this, as I don't want to trash the case. The irritating thing is I could have sworn that I had the Service Manual, but all I seem to be able to find is the VT102 User Manual. Ah, finally, I've got the manual downloaded. It looks like it contains the alignment data that I need. Now I just need to find a adjustment tool (I'm not sure I'm confident enough of how steady my hands are to stick a normal screwdriver in there). But, coils are usually tuned with allen (hex) tools, but still, metal allen keys will alter the coils characteristics enough that you won't know WHAT you're looking at :) Use plastic tools to tune it, it's not worth getting your hand injured. aak ###### Message-ID: <3BB8FF3F.933D4CD9@srv.net> From: Kevin Handy X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.74 [en] (Win98; U) X-Accept-Language: en MIME-Version: 1.0 Newsgroups: alt.sys.pdp10 Subject: Re: Using a REAL VT100 with simh References: <%hLt7.34042$QJ3.1202209@sjcpnn01.usenetserver.com> <9p80it$5eg$1@newsmaster.cc.columbia.edu> <3BB885F8.7D4DB51E@bartek.dontspamme.net> <021u7.7509$ib.117762@atlpnn01.usenetserver.com> <3BB8B359.AD6F3AF9@srv.net> <3BB8C10E.9D493A9B@bartek.dontspamme.net> <3BB8CD80.82F2CE35@iee.org> <3BB8F3C8.9FDA272B@bartek.dontspamme.net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Lines: 19 X-Complaints-To: abuse@usenetserver.com X-Abuse-Info: Please be sure to forward a copy of ALL headers X-Abuse-Info: Otherwise we will be unable to process your complaint properly.
