However 7.03 doesn't have the NFT program that Tim Stark used to wildcard copy all the .EXE files onto SYS:. PIP won't copy wildcard SFDs no matter how hard you try. I have been able to install SYSTAT, DIRECT, COMPIL and PIP by hand. Now I can take all the file names match *.EXE from the debug.log and paste a set of copy commands into the window but that is cheating. What is the proper way to copy all the .EXE files into SYS:? How do you think I built all of my copy commands when designing all the builds, freezes, and tape setups? > What is the proper way to copy all the .EXE files into SYS:? If 7.03 cusps are in SFDs, then NFT is around somewhere because I wouldn't have given that headache to the customers. Another way to circumvent the SFD problem is to type INTERCHANGE to BACKUP _before_ you restore the files to DEC:. That will put them all in the UFD and ignore the SFD information. Then you can use PIP to do all of your wildcard copying. It seems to me that the MIG does have you say INTERCHANGE to do a virgin install. People tried to put SFD support in PIP but gave up after looking at the code, always deciding that a rewrite had to be done. But we never got time/budget for that. /BAH Subtract a hundred and four for e-mail. ###### From: Timothy Stark Newsgroups: alt.sys.pdp10 Subject: Re: 7.03 PIP won't copy wildcard SFDs Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2001 02:14:47 -0000 Message-ID: References: User-Agent: tin/1.4.2-20000205 ("Possession") (UNIX) (Linux/2.2.17 (i686)) X-Complaints-To: newsabuse@supernews.com Lines: 38 Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!pfaff.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!news-ge.switch.ch!enews.sgi.com!newshub2.rdc1.sfba.home.com!news.home.com!feeder.via.net!news.he.net!sn-xit-03!sn-post-01!supernews.com!corp.supernews.com!not-for-mail Xref: chonsp.franklin.ch alt.sys.pdp10:3623 Greg Satz wrote: > So far I have the files copied from tape onto the emulated disk. What is the proper way to copy all the .EXE files into SYS:? You can use BACKUP to load all *.EXE directly from CUSPs. R BACKUP /TAPE MTA0: /INTERCHANGE /SUPERSEDE ALWAYS /PROTECTION 055 /FILES /RESTORE SYS:=*.EXE,*.SYS,....,DOC:=*.DOC,HLP:=*.HLP,.... When you see some errors at very end of 2nd CUSP, please ignore them. Then wait for "Hung drive" message before do another installation from next tapes. That means complete installation. It will work great for me! Please make a backup copy of your RP06 disk files first. Mark said that he got RIB errors. I had hard time to find a bug in my emulator and All basic and advanced instructions passed KLAD tests execpt FP instructions that is not finished yet. -- Tim Stark -- Timothy Stark <>< Inet: sword7@speakeasy.org -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Then remount the first tape and then do the following: /files /@dskb:[10,7,build]cusps.rst The cusps.rst file contains the backup instructions to put everything where it is supposed to.
