I would ask that those who respect Gunnar's memory try to refrain from getting into any argument regarding mediumship or whatnot if such an issue is raised (not that it needs to be, since I'm not claiming to have any such ability). During a nap on Friday I had a series of false awakenings. Thanks to seeing Julia mention Gunnar, my thoughts kept turning to looking for him. (Not long before his untimely death we had agreed to experiment with trying to find each other in our OBEs/LDs to see what results we would get.) But I was not terribly lucid in these false awakenings; I couldn't focus and ended up doing silly things like observing an airfield and singing "Leaving on a Jet Plane." But finally in what turned out to be the last false awakening of the series I was a bit more lucid. Seeing a low-flying plane reminded me of the plane theme from earlier and I wondered idly if perhaps it was symbolic of the "astral plane" or a "higher plane" or some such, which put me back in mind of my quest for Gunnar. It was a beautiful day in the dream neighborhood so I flew off towards the appealing cloudy blue sky to what would be the north in reality, dipping down to the ground and walking now and then too I believe. I was focused enough now to actually do something to influence the dream in the direction I had in mind, so as I moved along I called Gunnar's name a few times. (I thought of adding his last name, then realized I didn't really know for sure how to pronounce it.) Each time I heard a strange metallic noise off to the left, always the same. Finally I decided to act as if I was being answered but simply experiencing bad reception and said, "I can't hear you." This was effective, because at that I began to hear a male voice speaking loudly and clearly from the sky to the left. I listened closely, trying to process what it said, think critically about what was happening, and observe the scene around me at the same time, which was a challenge. The voice had a fairly convincing accent as well as I can judge (which isn't well since I'm not very familiar with Swedish accents), though the accent did seem to lapse very briefly once. Unlike most dream character speech, this voice was able to go on at length while still making sense. It seemed however rather impersonal; I don't think it mentioned me by name once, giving the experience more the feel of hearing a prepared speech or even a prerecorded message. I was a bit amused to note passing dream characters looking puzzledly up at the sky as if wondering where this loud voice was coming from. Unfortunately, remembering spoken words from dreams is extremely difficult for me, so I was not able to retain much of it, mostly the end bits. One line that remained in my memory is "I'm sorry for smoking." (Note: to the best of my knowledge Gunnar didn't smoke anything except the rare joint.) Another is, "I am trying to find out if God exists." I reflected on hearing that that PZ should be happy that at least this voice seemed interested in the important questions of the afterlife (or in claiming to have all the answers for that matter). The voice went on, "So far what I've found is seeing everything with a new depth of meaning, including our wilderness." At about that point I woke up, thinking that perhaps those who aren't comfortable with the idea of God might think of "seeking God" as a metaphor for "looking for a new depth of meaning." So, that's it. Nothing that my mind couldn't cook up on its own from its knowledge of Gunnar, but interesting, to me at least. ###### From: Janice Newsgroups: alt.out-of-body Subject: Re: Quest for Gunnar Date: Mon, 11 Mar 2002 05:37:11 -0500 Organization: http://extra.newsguy.com Lines: 20 Message-ID: References: NNTP-Posting-Host: p-977.newsdawg.com X-Newsreader: MicroPlanet Gravity v2.50 Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!pfaff.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!news.imp.ch!news.imp.ch!news-spur1.maxwell.syr.edu!news.maxwell.syr.edu!news.he.net!cyclone-sf.pbi.net!165.113.238.17!pln-w!spln!dex!extra.newsguy.com!newsp.newsguy.com!enews3 Xref: chonsp.franklin.ch alt.out-of-body:82801 In article , not-me@not- here.net says... > I > reflected on hearing that that PZ should be happy that at least this > voice seemed interested in the important questions of the afterlife (or > in claiming to have all the answers for that matter). Oh, I leave it sometimes; it's just that I virtually always start out there and typically interest myself in the stabilized locations. Going north as I did this time will get me into unfamiliar, random territory pretty quicky. I didn't feel like I went all that far. I was mostly flying and focusing on the sky at first, but at the point when I was listening to the voice I was on the ground, on a sidewalk I think. I'd like to comment on something you said which isn't requoted here, that being your interest in a plane or jet. I had a dream this morning that I was teaching my son (or someone else) how to fly a jet. We were doing ground-based turning exercises with the rudder, making sharp and even sharper counter-clockwise (left) turns. We had very little fuel left, and I couldn't justify doing any touch-and-go procedures, let alone taking off and landing just once. (I did awaken right after this.) The interesting part was, I had no sense of not knowing how to fly this jet, even though I have very little clue as to how to actually fly one. I do think that jets / planes represent astral bodies or physical bodies of some kind in our dreams. A jet would usually indicate a bubble like environment large enough to gather several people together, whereas a small airplane usually is just a single person, or a person and his/her mate. Came too a couple of times with the tele on. Then my wife must have turned the volume down and left the room. I dreamt I was sitting in the chair opposite (fireplace to my left instead of my right) and the fire was lit. Then it started roaring. I looked and saw a whole load of papers had been placed on top of the fire. One large page that was on fire got sucked up the chimney. The chimney was on fire........I made motion to get up and see to it but I couldn't move. SP? Funny but I realised this and relaxed to make it disappear. That's when I awoke to find the gas central heating had kicked in and was roaring away..........life butting in on my dreams again........ I just jump up and fly. It is my favorite thing to do in LD's. I have gone skydiving a couple times which has come close. Even scuba diving has come close to that flying feeling for me. I still love to fly in LDs though. Trish do you ever have dreams about things that go on around your own home? around your own neighborhood / town? around your own church / social club? one fellow from NYC mentioned that he usually dreams of people in lobbies and restaurants and escalators / elevators. That's because in NYC there are very very very few (if any) open homes with yards, trees, birds, .... you get the idea. My dream neighborhood is normally small-town/rural. Good fun! ever designed a round house? a radius of only 100' (200' diameter) would yield 31,415 sq ft ! Also, I've thought about but not yet drawn up an apartment complex (or neighborhood) based upon hexagonal lots: the streets run in hex patterns with clockwise (for right-side driving countries) traffic flow. The streets are 4-lanes, so the innermost direction can travel non-stop as long as it's going clockwise. Only when making a left turn does one have to stop for traffic, like a normal stop sign. I suppose in a left-road-driving country, the traffic would have to flow counter-clockwise so the lane closest to the yards would be able to go in a continuous loop without stopping. Only those making a right hand turn towards a different hex would have to stop. To send personal e-mail, please write to: richardcsilk at aol dot com. Thanks. I saw a TV documentary some time ago about little-known women architects of the 19th and 20th centuries. In the Victorian era one of them - I'm afraid a can't remember her name - had designed this delightful round house. It was sited so that in the morning the sun shone through the kitchen window. As the day wore on and the Sun moved round the light came though the living-room window, then as evening drew on it lit the dining-room and finally the bedroom. It was such simple but ingenious idea. It might help to walk around the neighborhood in the physical world, noting distinctive buildings and thinking about what you'd like to use them for in the OBE version of the neighborhood. So for instance you might pick out a place and say to yourself, "This will be the Primate House." Then in your OBE you go there with that expectation in mind and see if you can get it to conform to your will. Can take a bit of effort over time, though. -- It hurts to admit when you make mistakes. Well, I've got plenty of places around here. I live in an apartment complex, with nice wooded areas, several pools, and a lake. Lots of buildings to determine which is which. A primate house would be nice. There's an area towards the front on our complex which is a fenced in picnic area. Lots of space, very few picnic tables though ... so I think that's where my ape area will be. I think I'll construct a library out of our clubhouse, which is right across from where I live. Gives me a goal, and something to think about. -- .............. Trish (Perspective - Use it or Lose it.)
