However, my complaints are as follows: - There is no 'ending'. Someone says "there it is" and you see some place, then the credits come up. Nothing to keep you in anticipation of the next 2 instalments (it's a trilogy.) Nor does it actually finish. I was left with a confused feeling, because they saw where they were supposed to get to, but didn't get there, and there was nothing to make you wonder what happens next. It just ends! - Many of the fighting scenes are far too unrealistic. A small group of guys wipes out several armies of monsters and stuff. I know it's meant to be mystical, but when some guy with a sword kills hundreds of apparently well-trained monsters with a single blow, it makes you wonder how that's possible. - Far too much forest scenery. There appeared to be only one small village where people lived. Monsters and animals just appear from nowhere. All in all, it was an enjoyable film, but every time a fighting scene came along it was like "oh, here's another one..." and I kinda 'switched off' mentally until they'd stopped fighting. But it's the first 3 hour long film which I've actually not got bored with. There have been others which I've just felt like leaving in the middle of cos I got bored! Anyway, that's my opinion. -SB "lorz" wrote in message news:XSFW7.76367$BX4.4854528@e3500-atl1.usenetserver.com... > Anyone see LOTR yet? Wanted to get a few opinions before going. I think it runs close to three hours however. It does contain a lot of graphic violence and many quite scary looking creatures with a lot of dark, gloomy, scary looking scenes. I personally think it is probably a bit too intense and violent for young children under the age of twelve or so. I think the movie is classified "AA" for that reason. I think it is worth seeing if you enjoy fantasy movies. /ao May all your thoughts be good ones... ###### Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!not-for-mail From: Neil Franklin Newsgroups: alt.out-of-body Subject: Re: OT LOTR Date: 28 Dec 2001 00:57:02 +0100 Organization: My own Private Self Lines: 22 Message-ID: <6uk7v8b4j5.fsf@chonsp.franklin.ch> References: NNTP-Posting-Host: chonsp.franklin.ch X-Trace: chonsp.franklin.ch 1009497423 983 10.0.3.2 (27 Dec 2001 23:57:03 GMT) X-Complaints-To: news@chonsp.franklin.ch NNTP-Posting-Date: 27 Dec 2001 23:57:03 GMT X-Newsreader: Gnus v5.7/Emacs 20.4 Xref: chonsp.franklin.ch alt.out-of-body:75534 "lorz" writes: > Anyone see LOTR yet? We liked it except for the portrayal of the elves, who were like a cross between heavy-duty New Agey types and Romulans from Star Trek. :) -- The mightiest oak is just a nut that held its ground.
