Was there any reason you might have tried to forget any part of your childhood years, Lorene? I have clear memories dating from my first birthday. I remember learning to walk that day, holding onto Daddy's little finger. We walked across bright green grass with daisies under a very blue sky. I was born in a strange place, the grounds of the ruined Walsingham Abbey in Norfolk. I recalled being carried over to a small arched bridge and looking at yellow flowers alongside a stream. No doubt my parents had told me that my first birthday was a sunny day, about the walking, and that the bridge crossed the banks of a small stream. The banks had been planted with daffodils in the shape of the names of the girls born in that house for many decades - and only girls had ever been born in that house and ancient family ever since the Abbey ceased to be a convent in 1534. We left that house shortly before my second birthday. However, when it was my 26th birthday, I revisited Walsingham for the first time. It was a sunny day, and I was astonished by the beauty of the English parkland and the noble white stone ruins. I walked under the very high remaining archway of the Abbey and was overcome with dizziness. I sat down on the grass and suddenly had a flood of recollections. The cooing of the white doves living over the archway filled my hearing and the grass with daisies was just as bright. Then I realised that the moment I sat down, my dizziness had gone, because I was now at the same height above the grass as I had been as an infant. The friends with me were intrigued, and I told them about the bridge, pointing in its direction. The direction proved absolutely correct, despite the fact that the bridge, stream, and path winding towards it were all buried deep in the woods surrounding the Abbey. My name was still there, written in daffodils, although the J had lost its curl over 25 years! Nope. Not that I can think of. I mean, I didn't have the "best" childhood but I didn't have the "worst" either. I can remember a few things just not much. But as Jfred said maybe these are a sign of just a normal childhood with nothing significant enough to remember. I do remember more bad things then good but that's probably because they were more significant? > > I have clear memories dating from my first birthday.
