An really aggressive one using about 10 different attack methods. This is what my main webserver statistics say: root.island:/usr/local/apache/logs 8>grep '1.\/Sep\/' access_log | grep winnt | wc 2659 26590 346604 Translation: in the time between 10th of september and now (evening 19th) 2659 web server requests containing the text winnt have been demanded. Requests with this text on this machine only happen from attacks to break in to an (non-existant on this machine) Microsoft IIS program and subvert the machine to become inself an attacker. Tuesday evening 3 of our machines were collapsing in 5..30 minute intervals. Turned out to be the webcam software running on them that was recieving so many attacks that it was overloading the machines trying to make so many pictures. Mending the problem (disabling the webcams) and making sure I had got the culprint cost me 1 hour late going home.
