We would like to say that this is just the appropriate poem for Gunnar. We have already thought of reading it at his funeral. Some time ago Gunnar showed it to us and already then it was very touching. He told us that it would be very fitting for him if he should die. Now that scenario has come true, and yet we feel that he is more alive than ever. Yes, you may indeed say that _he did not die_. We hope to post something here about Gunnar in the near future. When I heard the sad news a few days ago, I remembered that post of his, and went looking for it in the online archive. I imagined the poem being read at his funeral and wondered if he had liked it so much that he showed it to you, his brothers. I'm glad that he did, because I did not feel it was my place to suggest it. Did you ever post the poem you found? : : Nope. I found it months later. He wrote this poem shortly after his wife had passed. Here is a bit about the poet and the poem below: Called the "Poet Laureate to the Moon" or "a modern day Ralph Waldo Emerson", James Dillet Freeman has been the most popular of all Unity writers. His poetry has been read by more than five hundred million people. Jim Freeman has had his work taken to the moon twice, a distinction he shares with no other author. His 1941 [ PRAYER FOR PROTECTION ] was taken aboard Apollo 11 in July 1969 by Lunar Module pilot Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr. Aldrin had the poem with him when he made his historic moonwalk! Two years later, Jim's 1947 poem [ I AM THERE ]went to the moon with Colonel James B. Irwin on Apollo 15. Irwin left a microfilm copy of the poem on the moon. I AM THERE Do you need Me? I am there. You cannot hear Me, yet I speak through your voice. You cannot feel Me, yet I am the power at work in your hands. I am at work, though you do not understand My ways. I am at work, though you do not recognize My works. I am not strange visions. I am not mysteries. Only in absolute stillness, beyond self, can you know Me as I am, and then but as a feeling and a faith. Yet I am there. Yet I hear. Yet I answer. When you need Me, I am there. Even when you deny Me, I am there. Even when you feel most alone, I am there. Even in your fears, I am there. Even in your pain, I am there. I am there when you pray and when you do not pray. I am in you, and you are in Me. Only in your mind can you feel separate from Me, for only in your mind are the mists of "yours" and "mine." Yet only with your mind can you know Me and experience Me. Empty your heart of empty fears. When you get yourself out of the way, I am there. You can of yourself do nothing, but I can do all. And I am in all. Though you may not see the good, good is there, for I am there. I am there because I have to be, because I am. Only in Me does the world have meaning; only out of Me does the world take form; only because of Me does the world go forward. I am the law on which the movement of the stars and the growth of living cells are founded. I am the love that is the law's fulfilling. I am assurance. I am peace. I am oneness. I am the law that you can live by. I am the love that you can cling to. I am your assurance. I am your peace. I am one with you. I am. Though you fail to find Me, I do not fail you. Though your faith in Me is unsure, My faith in you never wavers, because I know you, because I love you. Beloved, I am there. ###### From: Newsgroups: alt.out-of-body Subject: Re: Repost: From Gunnar Date: Sun, 8 Jul 2001 15:21:54 +0100 Organization: Posted via Supernews, http://www.supernews.com Message-ID: References: X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2919.6600 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.00.2919.6600 X-Complaints-To: newsabuse@supernews.com Lines: 71 Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!pfaff.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!news-ge.switch.ch!news.tele.dk!195.224.25.10!sn-uk-xit-01!sn-uk-post-02!sn-uk-post-01!supernews.com!corp.supernews.co.uk!not-for-mail Xref: chonsp.franklin.ch alt.out-of-body:68623 "Janice" wrote in message news:MPG.15ae8556c65d546b9898b9@news.starlinx.com... > Gunnar posted this upon a time. I have just been reading your 'Viking Ode' . . . it's really beautiful; It helped me because I started to cry and I think most of us need to when we lose touch with someone like Gunnar. I'm hoping that someone will repost more of Gunnar from time to time because I've missed a lot ng lately. And as far as I have been able to tell, it's anonymous. I searched all over Usenet and found that people quote it a lot, but I never saw more of an attribution than "Author Unknown." > I have just been reading your 'Viking Ode' . . . it's really beautiful; > It helped me because I started to cry and I think most of us need to when we > lose touch with someone like Gunnar. That one can be a real tear-jerker, yes, I know. :( > I'm hoping that someone will repost > more of Gunnar from time to time because I've missed a lot ng lately. I'll see what I can do. -- No matter how great and destructive your problems may seem now, remember, you've probably only seen the tip of them. --Despair, Inc.
