You can hear the high-pitched tone from a monitor? Interesting. Years back I applied for a job working in a radio studio at the BBC. They gave me a hearing test which involved playing a disk on which the tracks were a short burst of a continuous tone going up to 20Khz in increments of 1Khz. I heard the 13Khz tone clearly but nothing higher, so I didn't get the job. I was quite surprised to find out later how many people could hear high-pitched tones coming from monitors and TVs. When I was at engineering shool a group of students (about 6-8 of us) were bored with an lab session of measuring a small amplifier. So we left the tone generator and oscilloscope hooked up and added a set of walkman headphones and a wire that pulled amplification down to zero (silence). Then we went in 1kHz steps doing Morse code. The worst one (he did wear an hearing aid) got 9kHZ and dropped at 10kHz. Then around 13-18 the rest lost. I won by still getting 20kHz and failling 21kHz. Sort of astonnished them. -- Neil Franklin, neil@franklin.ch.remove http://neil.franklin.ch/ Hacker, Unix Guru, El Eng HTL/BSc, Sysadmin, Archer, Roleplayer - Intellectual Property is Intellectual Robbery
