For the newbies, I'm convinced that I perceived this bird's nest clairvoyantly, since I believe that OBE's are all in the head. It's important to stress that there were no other bird's nests under the eves of the house and that the location of this particular one that I saw in my OBE is situated in the one corner of the house where I normally never go. There are tall, wide bramble bushes with killerr thorns that dominate that part of the back yard. There's no lawn to mow there and there is nothing there that had taken me to that corner in a couple/three years. Once I had a chance to check it out, I had to fight my way through the thorns, stand against the wall, look up and back out towards the yard to check to see if there was a nest there. There was. So, my question for the group, has anyone else had any paranormal experiences in dreams or OBEs you want to share? I hope so...let's get this group back to bidness and screw the trolls. My friends: I had my first full-blown OBE just an hour ago and I'm really jazzed! Some of you may recall my report of having a near OBE not long ago...everything but my head pulled out and I did a slow "breakdance", turning in circles slowly as I tried 3 times to get my head to disconnect...it was wild! But THIS was the first "all body" OBE since the early 80s and I owe it all to you guys here on the NG! I recall vividly falling down below my bed before realizing what had happened. Just as in my near OBE, I was very aware of the lack of any sound....I attributed it the first time to the total deafness in my right ear a couple of years ago (too many loud concerts and having the volume turned to 11 on a 10 scale took it's toll over time) and as I gained control of myself, I floated up above my reclined body, laughing with joy. Visually, it was like an acid trip...everything was slightly out of sych...that cool silver and purple glow along all the edges of items in my view..vibrating slightly. I decided to go outside and sure enough, there I was flying around my neighborhood..it was SO cool. It was much more intense and real than my regular flying dreams! Then, remembering the discussion about powerlines, I headed for our local power grid. As I approached, I remember cartwheeling my arms to slow down then, upon contact, I looked down and watched with fascination as the powerline pushed into my body...much like a string being pulled through jello...I even felt it coming out my back, pulling my "astral skin" slightly then snapping all the way through. It was such a fascinating moment, I turned and did it two more time, laughing at the effect! I was really doing well, everything in the Universe seemed so small, so insignificant. There was no hesitation...none of the dreary, daily worries that make up the dull daytime activities...I was FREE!! Ha, I can't help but smile even as I type this. Then, something from yesterday entered my mind. A member of the lucid dream NG and I had been having a discussion about the state of Science in our money-driven society and suddenly, it was important for me to say something to her that I'd left out in my last post. Instantly, I was flying very high over the land. I even looked up, hoping to catch some meteors coming in from the Leonid shower still going on (I didn't see any..sad to say). Without warning, I lost altitude REALLY fast...again, I very clearly remember cartwheeling my arms as I approached the ground, a natural bodily action, for me at least, in an attempt to keep myself "righted" as I came into a large town from above. I approached the top of a building and instantly, after closing my eyes just before hitting the roof, and I was inside this strange condominium/apartment. It was an "open ceiling" design above the livingroom with a "loft" structure overlooking it...you could look down from the loft into the livingroom below. Seated at a table that had a PC currently turned off, I saw a woman writing on a "legal" pad on a pullout platform in the desk. I slowly floated towards her, hoping it was this woman I mentioned and as I came even with the opening of the loft, she appeared to look up with a curious "looking around" countenence. I tried to talk to her, telling her who I was and why I was there but she didn't appear to hear or see me..well DUH! :) Anyway, after a few moments, I heard the barking of a small dog, terrier, I think, and she got up and walked around the corner, heading downstairs. Disappointed, I lost concentration and was immediately flying overhead again, heading home. I slowly sank down through the roof of my house, making a note of a bird's nest just under the eaves on the side of the house (yes, I just checked and it IS there) and floated peacefully down to the sleeping form below and my OBE ended. It was SUCH a TRIP!! In all ways :) Anyway, I wanted to write it all down while it was still vivid in my mind. Thanks to all of you and this wonderful group; without whom I'm sure this wouldn't have happened. I opened the front door and yelled back. "What?" "Dad?" "Where are you?" as it turns out he was at work at the time and had been for 3 hours or so. So he couldn't have been yelling for me to come out and look at all the snow. There was 1.5 feet of snow on the ground. Can I offer a non-paranormal alternative? Here's a repost of something I did to examine my own "voices in the night"; knowing how we can integrate outside information into our hypnogogia and dreams, it seems just as likely that either you heard a weather report before bed and anticipated it, or, some minor sensorial input produced the effect. Just a thought, and thanks for sharing. xxxxxxxxxx repost Hi Group: Since Flaggy is going to lay some personal experiences with "Voices" of his own soon, I thought I'd repost this interesting little foray I took not long ago into internally generated audio perceptions. It might not be anything close to what Flaggy says he does when he hears things, but it's a neat little example as to just how maleable and suggestitble our perceptions can be under certain circumstances. This morning I heard two different types of auditory anomolies and decided to try a little experiment. There have been a number of threads lately from people experiencing similar, often con- fusing and loud auditory phenomena and it seemed like a good time to take the effort to examinemy own anomalies closer. I think you'll agree that the results were worth the effort and, I believe, possibly provide a reasonable explanation for a phenomena too easily and quickly assigned a paranormal origin. Two factors that seem to apply to my particular situation are warmer weather and an increase in aerial pollen content. I say this because I'm now using a fan while I sleep and my sinuses have reacted worse this year than in the past to our very warm and wet Spring. The connection will become clear in a moment. Very early this morning, I woke up from a dream and had a hard time breathing. My efforts to clear my nose woke me up fully and I lay in bed, sniffing and unable to get back to sleep easily. Then, as I was drifting off to sleep, I heard music. Very faint but very distinct Classical music that sounded like a String section playing. I immediately opened my eyes and sat up, listening intently. I couldn't hear it as I very carefully "scanned" my environment. I lay back down and after a few minutes, I again found myself paying more attention to my inner hypnagogia as I became more relaxed and sure enough, there was the music again. Now, it sounded very real and very melodic. There was no doubt in my mind that somewhere in my room, there was a radio playing really low. I opened my eyes and it stopped immediately. I got up and walked over to my little portable radio I have sitting on a shelf above my computer that I'll sometimes have on in the background as I type away on my word processor. I checked to see if it was on at a very low volume, but it was not. Hmmmmm. I walked to the window and stuck my ear against the screen, trying to determine if someone was out in the street, listening to their radio at 4 am; nope, nothing going on out there. Ok, this was starting to really bug me. I lay back down and finally, after about 15 minutes of forcing myself to pay attention as I drifted off, I noticed that my sinuses started whistling very very softly as I passed from relaxed-waking State to Stage 1 sleep! Sure enough, I repeated this excercise 3 more times and confirmed that a very slight auditory whistleing in my nasal passages was being interpreted as classical music by my brain....it was pretty funny, actually, once I isolated the source. Finally, I went into the bathroom and located an old sinus spray bottle and cleared up my nose and figured I could finally get some sleep. Not yet :) So, I was breathing better and settled back onto the bed, very tired, but smiling about my little discovery. The music I heard was pure, complex and very real to my brain and each time I heard it, the tune was slightly different, but it was percieved as being from an outside source...there was absolutely no doubt about that conclusion, until, of course, I had identified it's true source. So, I was happy to have gone to the trouble of keeping my awareness, my "wits", if you will, about me as I fell asleep. Finally, I could get some zzzzzz's. Then, as I drifted off, I heard a very clear, very distinct voice speaking from just a foot or two from my face, "Sometime to go...." and my eyes popped open widely and I sat up, heart racing! It was SO CLEAR! The voice was male, no doubt about that, and the pronunciation very clear. What the HELL was THAT?! I declared out loud. I swear, I thought there was someone in the room with me, it was that definite of a perception. "Damn," I thought, "this just isn't my night for sleep!" and I shook it off, laying back down. It took a good twenty minutes for me to get relaxed enough to start drifting off to sleep. My nose had become slightly more closed up but it wasn't whistleing this time...I made sure of it as I "watched" my body functions and the room around me as I drifted further into hypnagogia-ville. I was now seeing very definite dream-like images as my body fully relaxed and I was about to allow myself to give into sleep completely when I heard a voice again...this time, a woman's! "...kitchen colors are too bright....". Very clear and "right next" to my ear. WHOA! I sat up, startled. What the hell is going ON HERE! I spoke out loud. Then, on a slight chance that someone was "visiting" me (hey, at this point, I was CONVINCED there was something VERY weird going on!), I spoke out loud, "Ok, I'm here, talk to me!". Nothing. I was pretty upset at this point. I got up and grabbed my Sony voice-activated mini cassette recorder and brought it back to bed with me. I set the "sensitivity" for the voice activation to "high" and placed it flat onto the bed, turned on, but not running, because of the silence and checked that it functioned properly. "Ok," I thought,"if there IS something in the room with me, perhaps I can get it on tape". I lay down and went through a progressive relaxation excercise that I use when I have trouble falling asleep. As you might well imagine, even this didn't help much, but I was serious now about finding out what the hell was going on here. Finally, after I'd worked from toe-to-head twice, I started to drift off to sleep again...the recorder just to the side of my face as I lay on my left side. Relaxing...relaxing....I started to drift into full Stage 1 sleep, getting full dreamlike images again and letting myself give into them completely. Then, another male voice! "...coming to town Friday..." !!!!!! SHIT! I woke up and looked around...I mean the voice was RIGHT THERE! I reached over, turned on my bedside lamp and looked at the cassette. YES! It HAD moved just a little because I had set it up at the very beginning of the leader and now it had wrapped around the spool at least once...only the brown of the magnetic tape showing. I rewound it, thinking I might have actually caught a paranormal Electronic Voice Phenomenon! Cool! I pressed play and I heard two distinct SNORK SNORKS!! I had started to SNORE and somehow my brain had processed these very brief SNORKS into complex, understandable sentences! aHA! So, the mystery was solved. First, the very recognizable notes of a symphony orchestra string section, caused by the very very faint whistleing in my nose...and now, very distinct voices that were actually my snoring. So, the point of all this, I suppose, is never EVER assign a paranormal explanation to a perception/ experience, until you've fully eliminated all possible other explanations. There's a good lesson there for anyone who's had similar experiences. Thanks for listening.
