I just thought I'd begin a discussion about high fevers bringing on "visions" of rather strange things! Of course, the sceptics in the group will holler, "Delusions", "Hallucinations"... brought on by fever! But, I'm not so sure that there might be a little more to it than that? I mean, why couldn't a high fever also be a trigger for other states of consciousness? Hmmm??? Comments are of course, welcome!..... I have 2 different types of "things" to relate, from my own experiences: I can still remember, when I was quite young (about 5)... and was living with my Grandmother. I had gotten very sick, and had a high fever.... probably the old flu bug again! I was laying in the bed, in and out of sleep due to nausia, and with fever.... the door was open, so the room was only semi-dark. I opened my eyes, and there they were! Floating calmly next to the ceiling were many of these big, weird-shaped balls! They were the size of basketballs... but not smooth. Some had bumps all over them... and some had sharp "spikes" sticking out all over! They'd bounce lazily off the ceiling, and off each other, just slowly hugging the ceiling and rolling around. I called to my Grandma because of them, but of course.... as soon as she turned on the light they were gone! She didn't believe me, neither. Said it was just a dream. Ha! I knew better, I SEEN 'em ! :) Here's the kicker of it: Many years later, as an adult, I saw these depictions of different viruses in a magazine.... and there they were!!! That is what I had seen! Now, could it be that my mind was projecting these foreign objects into my consciousness for me to see? Hmmm???? I can even remember reaching up and touching them with my hand... and they would slowly bounce off it, and up to the ceiling again! So, I must have been using my astral arm... to reach the ceiling! Didn't seem odd to me at all, at the time! Now, for the "wacko" one!!! I have this "little guy" who visits me when I'm really, really sick! He's kind of cute actually, and very promiscuous! (?) He stands about 10 inches high or so, giggles at me, runs and hides behind things and plays peek-a-boo with me! Nothing more, nothing less,....but he doesn't come across as scary or anything, just kind of taunts me and goofs around! I saw him first when I was about 11 years old, and feverish of course. He scared me the first time though, until we got to know each other! I hollered at Mom to come quick! He was on top of my dresser, and when she came in he ducked behind a picture and hid! She stood there in the doorway, and didn't see him neither! Figures. When she turned her back to leave.... he had the gaul to peek out from behind the picture and give me the old "nya nya nya" routine, with his thumbs in his ears and wiggling his fingers at me! Little jerk! Saw him a very few times as a child....but then when I reached the age of 27 I came down with, what must have been pneumonia. (I rode it out....didn't go to the doctor.) I was ill for a couple of weeks....and at one point my temperature was up to 106! I remember reading somewhere that at 107 you're supposed to go into a coma....so, I ate some ice cream that night and went to bed! Didn't really know if I'd wake up or not! Anyway.....here comes my "little guy" again, just like an old friend! :) Same guy.... and his mannerisms hadn't improved any, neither! Hahahaha! Cute little shit, though. Do I think he really exists? Of course he does! What do you think? I think they exist, in the astral,.... and I think that they're the origin of all the "little guys" of legend.... the fairies, gnomes, pixies, leprecauns, etc. Don't you? B.D. It does make me wonder, once again, if there are certain things (fever, drugs, etc..) that flip a "switch" of some kind to bring on these ways of "seeing" into the astral and bringing on OOB experiences, or ILLUSIONS (borrowing from Richard Bach again, hehe.. go get those books Bruce! 'Illusions' and 'ONE' I think you'd enjoy.) Really it reminds me more of the rest of my nutty family - my sister with the elves that cured her when she was sick, my other sister and brother with the goblins that came to play with them every night, etc. But yes, I did have that one incident as a kid when I was abducted out of my bed by fairies then realized I was dreaming when the fairy court had an elevator and the queen looked like my first grade teacher. > I'd love a little guy. My third sister always wanted a little man she could keep in her pocket, but she never got one. The only visitant she ever had was an Old Hag that she's sure came straight out of "The Wizard of Oz." > Come to think of it ... when I was a kid I would wish and wish that the > characters from "The Hobbit" would come and take me on an adventure. They > never came. : Well, phooey. :) ###### From: "Trish" Newsgroups: alt.out-of-body References: <8H_y4.459$Q%5.126372@homer.alpha.net> Subject: Re: Fairies Gnomes Fevers & Bugs Lines: 108 X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 4.71.1712.3 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.2106.4 Message-ID: X-Trace: /wqhX1crSjJJ+gXrcZe0O2FoUlX6FLs2WpJ6TSze/y7zFe0+i+1R6T0KPuMRN6G72gjXytXvQUHK!uUNeVo542HB+GDvLqJKpko2k0MD3nx9eA++eLPRw26w/0Jykr8lqQ/qvTl+MRh5L3HgBqCD+309W!cHekMSVt X-Complaints-To: abuse@gte.net X-Abuse-Info: Please be sure to forward a copy of ALL headers X-Abuse-Info: Otherwise we will be unable to process your complaint properly NNTP-Posting-Date: Tue, 14 Mar 2000 02:19:25 GMT Distribution: world Date: Tue, 14 Mar 2000 02:19:25 GMT Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!pfaff.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!newsfeed-zh.ip-plus.net!news.ip-plus.net!News.Amsterdam.UnisourceCS!newspeer.te.net!news.indigo.ie!diablo.theplanet.net!newsfeed.berkeley.edu!su-news-hub1.bbnplanet.com!washdc3-snh1.gtei.net!news.gtei.net!dfiatx1-snr1.gtei.net.POSTED!not-for-mail Xref: chonsp.franklin.ch alt.out-of-body:35672 lorz wrote in message ... > >B.D. I do role-playing (both tabletop/dice and live/costume type) and in both play elves. So I suppose illness (particularly near-deadly) is an strong "astraliser" (but of course not an recommended one :-)). My best paranormal experiences up to now (2 poltergeist style cases of psychokinesis) happened when I had 42 degree (Celsius, = 101 deg F) fever from an virus (sold) and bacteria (bronchitis) dual infection confusing my immunesystem to near collapse putting me into bed for 5 days (the doctor after hearing the syptoms came running despite it being her free day, suspecting Meninguitus). The psychokinesis cases were: 1. an oven plate switched on (the last user of it says he definitely switched it off (and has AFAIK never else left it on). 2. The flap over the controls on the fron of the TV knocked open (which is never opened in normal use, as we use the remote, I doubt even my parents know it is there). -- Neil Franklin, neil@franklin.ch.remove http://neil.franklin.ch/ Nerd, Geek, Hacker, Unix Guru, Sysadmin, Roleplayer, Mystic Use a WIMP (Windows Icons Mouse Pulldowns) interface - or get one with a CLUE (Command Linue User Environment)? ###### From: "lorz" Newsgroups: alt.out-of-body References: <8H_y4.459$Q%5.126372@homer.alpha.net> <6u3dpt6zwt.fsf@chonsp.franklin.ch> Subject: Re: Fairies Gnomes Fevers & Bugs Lines: 51 X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 4.72.3110.1 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.3110.3 Message-ID: Date: Tue, 14 Mar 2000 15:58:45 -0500 NNTP-Posting-Host: 216.78.240.16 X-Trace: news2.mia 953067595 216.78.240.16 (Tue, 14 Mar 2000 15:59:55 EST) NNTP-Posting-Date: Tue, 14 Mar 2000 15:59:55 EST Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!pfaff.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!news-ge.switch.ch!isdnet!netnews.com!news.maxwell.syr.edu!newsfeed.atl.bellsouth.net.MISMATCH!newsfeed.atl!news2.mia.POSTED!not-for-mail Xref: chonsp.franklin.ch alt.out-of-body:35716 Neil Franklin wrote in message <6u3dpt6zwt.fsf@chonsp.franklin.ch>... :"lorz" writes: : :> B.D. No. These were (as the I was trying to say with the "poltergeist style" bit) entirely non deliberate (at least from the concious part out, poltergeist is assumed to be the subconcious acting out via PK). The reason I regard them (specially the second) as poltergeist is that I am most likely the only person knowing of that flap (and even if other know , they never use it), and I definitely did not open it by hand (nor was I near it, until I went into the room where it is and saw it already open). The other (oven plate) was discovered a few minutes later. Also both fit the class of small movements that can be done with one PK "push" and do not require too much strengh (typical for poltergeist are tipped over bottles, caps popped open, pictures falling from the wall, books being thrown). Also Poltergeist is assumed to be the subconcious trying to pass a message to the conciousness, which it cant get by the censoring of the ego. And This happened the first time I was seriously ill (and so the soul loosend), after the time I had just started to accept the idea that paranormal may exist and not just be tales. -- Neil Franklin, neil@franklin.ch.remove http://neil.franklin.ch/ Nerd, Geek, Hacker, Unix Guru, Sysadmin, Roleplayer, Mystic Use a WIMP (Windows Icons Mouse Pulldowns) interface - or get one with a CLUE (Command Linue User Environment)? ###### From: aka_praxis@my-deja.com Newsgroups: alt.out-of-body Subject: Re: Fairies Gnomes Fevers & Bugs Date: Thu, 16 Mar 2000 17:04:10 GMT Organization: Deja.com - Before you buy. My journal entries detail the PK events (if that is what they were) and how I went about producing them, the mechanisms I used as targets, mental procedures and visualizations, effects, possible mundane explanations, my control measures to eliminate them and my preliminary conclusions. These are journal entries so I do not want to post them publicly but I would not mind providing them by e-mail. I think that they are sufficiently detailed and clear enough that anyone reading them can duplicate the experiment including the mental process I used. It should be noted that, I cannot rule out normal physical explanations entirely as my controls were limited by my funds and creativity. However, I can say that I appeared to produce controlled motion of my target in more than one direction (including full stops) at variable distances with controls in place for thermal, electrical, wind convection or sonic/siesmic influences. The controls for thermal were somewhat limited but were still pretty convincing (IMO). But, I'm > not so sure that there might be a little more to it than that? -- There are mental disciplines which will allow you to see such things without being ill, intoxicated or asleep. The time it takes to produce preliminary results varies from individual to individual but is generally from one to three months (two in my case). The "visions", at first, are of a seemingly random nature and not much utility except perhaps as amusement. However those who have had OBE experience will recognize them as familiar events and things astral. At first it is a brief "out of the corner of your eye" thing. You would wonder if it was an "image" or just a trick of the light. After much practice the images may be made more persistant and yet this "ability" may be turned off and on at will. At first this is not the case. Oddly, as per your anecdote, one of the first things I saw was a "gnome". Several times, sequentially, for split seconds at a time but only out of the corner of my eye. Another person I have spoken to has done the same. Perhaps the gnome is a Jungian archetype of some sort? At any rate, I have given critics enough fodder in this post that I will not post more on it publicly. If you are interested in the techniques I spoke of, e-mail me about it. About 7 and a half years ago I was in my first term of college. I came down with a really strong coccol infection of some sort for about a week. I went to class all week anyway. By the time Thursday night came around, I'd about had it (no class on Friday). I had a very high temp (don't know how high), and I crashed early in the afternoon. All night I had visions that I'd attributed to the fever. Most of the visions, I can't remember. The part that I remember the most vividly is wandering through some faerie land with four or five little bearded guys that were a lot like dwarves. We were searching for some lost axe with a heart-shaped ruby the size of two hands in the middle of its blade. It was some sort of racial icon to them. I also recall a forbidding looking mountain that the item was supposed to be housed within. We traveled through forests for what seemed like days. When I awoke, the fever had broken. It was about 3 AM and I felt like a curse had been lifted from me. I've never experienced anything else like this in my life. It seemed so vivid and real.
