But SSL is only the means of get a CC number to the e-commerce site. What happens after that (say malicious hackers getting into their system) may be secure or not. No possibility of testing that. So you will have to trust them (like you do when ordering over phone or fax or letter, which also goes into the same orders-processing computer). > Standard Delivery but they get here so fast. I have never had a single > problem with them and once you are set up on their "1 Click" shopping, it's > a Breeze! And unfortunately a Breeze that you will see nowhere else on any other web site. Why? Because Amazon in an totally dirty act of fighting competition by court instead of delivering good customer service sues everyone who implements something similar. They claim that it cost them to implement it, so no one else is allowed to do something similar. In this they fail to mention that the others also had to implement their systems (at the same cost) and did not simply copy Amazons programs. I.e. it is like say "I am the first to build a car so no one else is allowed to". Think about what had happened it the first car builder had done that. Unfortunately the broken U.S. legal system gives them right to do this and they do not have enough decency to not use every chance to harm competitors, no matter how unfair and injust it is. For the nitty-gritty details on this broken law and its consequences you can read: http://www2.linuxjournal.com/articles/currents/014.html For short it says: the rest of the world (that is: all of us) pays the price in less choice in and less function of e-commerce web sites. So as an consumer I call to you all to punnish Amazon for this bad behaviour and stop going to there any more. There are others (despite what Amazon would like the world to be). Try www.barnesandnoble.com (the victim of their court case) or www.fatbrain.com or any of the other web book sellers (many). Additionally quite a few of them are even cheaper, because Amazon thinks it does not need to compete on price any more and has let its prices rise. -- Neil Franklin, neil@franklin.ch.remove http://neil.franklin.ch/ Among other things a Hacker (a non-malicious one)
