I read the writings there, and someone suggested for me (because I was very active to writing them about the subject) to get to this channel for more info. I have also read Robert Peterson's great OBE book, and I get all the time more interested about OBE's and would like to try it.. Why not to try? Well, the problem is, that my mind seems to be *very* active. If I try to relax, and clear my mind from thoughts, it's just impossible. Thoughts are running wild in my mind spoiling my relaxation. Sometimes some song start's to sort of "play" in my head (you know, when a song has been played on radio many times, you will remember it very clearly..) or I remember that I forgot to do this and that, and so on.. Also, my hearing gets kind of too sharp (like any kind of click or tick or some sound around our house..) and that is also very distracting.. Anyways, I don't get too much ideas what I could do about it - to get relaxed - maybe there is not much to do? Also, I would like to know, that what is the trance or deep meditative state like? How does it feel like? Isn't the trance (or whatever you want to call it) what I should tro to achieve before my mind is quiet enough for OBE? Or maybe I'm totally in disorder about this whole OBE thing. Enlighten me.. Maybe you'd like to try that first and then step into OBEing once you are comfortable with that? Unless, of course, you already lucid dream. I think that this sort of problem indicates that you are overstimulated in your daily life - a very common circumstance for so many these days. Try getting rid of your TV and radio, spend more time in nature or work in your garden, keep on task with your responsibilities so that you needn't worry about them later on, etc, etc. This will help calm your mind and improve your chances for attaining a deeper meditative state. > Isn't the trance (or whatever you want to call it) what I should tro to > achieve before my mind is quiet enough for OBE? Or maybe I'm totally in > disorder about this whole OBE thing. Enlighten me.. Three steps: 1. Strive to achieve and maintain a serene waking life. 2. Find a meditation technique that you like (chakra meditations are nice), and practice it regularly. 3. Try some of the various OOB techniques (these are really specialized meditations). Going into a "trance" is not necessary. Good luck. ###### From: kbellangel@aol.com (Kay WorldPeace) Newsgroups: alt.out-of-body Subject: Re: Newbie's problems Lines: 79 NNTP-Posting-Host: ladder07.news.aol.com X-Admin: news@aol.com Date: 08 Dec 1999 02:42:30 GMT References: <82jpjt$3mu$1@tron.sci.fi> Organization: AOL http://www.aol.com Message-ID: <19991207214230.07103.00000347@ng-ck1.aol.com> Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!pfaff.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!newsfeed-zh.ip-plus.net!news.ip-plus.net!News.Amsterdam.UnisourceCS!newspeer.te.net!news.indigo.ie!news-out.cwix.com!newsfeed.cwix.com!news.compuserve.com!news-master.compuserve.com!portc01.blue.aol.com!audrey04.news.aol.com!not-for-mail >Subject: Newbie's problems >From: "Heikki Tuomela" heikki.tuomela@sci.fi >Date: Tue, 07 December 1999 03:11 PM EST >Message-id: <82jpjt$3mu$1@tron.sci.fi> > >Hi everyone, > >I was reading some science newsgroup out there and found a discussion about >a thing called OBE. Thoughts are running wild in my mind spoiling my relaxation.>> In the beginning just sit in a comfortable position, laying down may put you to sleep, close your eyes and look into the dark. I suggest a dark room because a lot of light will filter through your eyelids. Cut down the noise in your environment as much as possible. Then just relax. Let your mind wander or just think about the thing you like to do the most. Think about the times in your life that you have been the most at peace. <<>Sometimes some song start's to sort of "play" in my head (you know, when a >song has been played on radio many times, you will remember it very >clearly..) or I remember that I forgot to do this and that, and so on..>> A lot of this goes away if you think about some peaceful pleasant wonderful experience or place or even someone. <<>Also, my hearing gets kind of too sharp (like any kind of click or tick or >some sound around our house..) and that is also very distracting..>> Then concentrate on the ticking and block everything else. <<>Anyways, I don't get too much ideas what I could do about it - to get >relaxed - maybe there is not much to do? >> You are working too hard. It is not that complicated. There is no right or wrong way. You have to find you own path. <what is the trance or deep meditative state like?>> It is like being in another place. You are aware of the things that go on about you but you are aware of another dimension. I sort of float in both places simultaneously. I don't think others do this. I only lose it if I go to sleep. Then I have gone too far into the other dimension. << How does it feel like?>> Concentrated or heavy relaxing. You don't want to move. You just want to stay where you are mentally. You don't want to stop. Then as time passes you come back just like coming up from the bottom of a swimming pool. >Isn't the trance (or whatever you want to call it) what I should tro to >achieve before my mind is quiet enough for OBE?>> Most people cannot do an OBE like they turn on the TV. There are a variety of OBE's. It is not like the movies. The best of experiences is like the scene in Contact where Jodi Foster looks up at the stars. The same kind of surreal environment as in that scene when everything seem more vivid. << Or maybe I'm totally in >disorder about this whole OBE thing. Enlighten me.. >>> Practice practice practice. You will find your own path. Your own light. Use you mind to create an evironment that is pleasing and just rest there. This is a very subtle experience. <<>Thanks, >Heikki Tuomela (just call me Heikki or Hessu) >heikki.tuomela@Xsci.fi [Poista X - Remove X]>> John WorldPeace WorldPeace is one word. http://www.johnworldpeace.com How can we manifest peace on earth if we do not include everyone (all nations, all religions, all races, both sexes) in our vision of peace? ###### From: "claire" Newsgroups: alt.out-of-body Subject: Re: Newbie's problems Date: Wed, 8 Dec 1999 07:46:41 -0500 Organization: Posted via Supernews, http://www.supernews.com Lines: 33 Message-ID: References: <82jpjt$3mu$1@tron.sci.fi> <82ldp2$4n1$1@tron.sci.fi> X-Complaints-To: newsabuse@supernews.com X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 4.72.3110.5 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.3110.3 Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!pfaff.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!news-ge.switch.ch!isdnet!howland.erols.net!news-out.transit.remarq.com.MISMATCH!remarQ70!rQdQ!supernews.com!remarQ.com!corp.supernews.com!not-for-mail Heikki Tuomela wrote in message <82ldp2$4n1$1@tron.sci.fi>... >I don't lucid dream yet.. I've noticed several people coming into this newsgroup who would do better as lucid dreamers first and then going to OBE. But, that's a personal opinion. The difference is that you initiate your experience from sleeping, it's much easier to induce for newbies, it is just as "reality defying" but it is mostly made up of imaginary "adventures" you create yourself. I am also 15... wait no 16, damn age changes every year.. started trying to obe when 15 though (don' worr, i only just changed). My mind is very active to, but clearing your head of thoughts is just one way of meditating isn't it?? I prefer to imagine a single object in as much detail as possible... faces are good, cos ur brain remembers them well. > Also, my hearing gets kind of too sharp (like any kind of click or tick or > some sound around our house..) and that is also very distracting.. do what the other person suggested, concentrate on the tick, or i once meditated during music class while listening to the techno beat through the headphones > Anyways, I don't get too much ideas what I could do about it - to get > relaxed - maybe there is not much to do? I am ussually already relaxed because i practice while i am waiting to go to sleep.. i hav problems sleeping... i've put it down to an overactive mind... heehee.. Also, I would like to know, that > what is the trance or deep meditative state like? Enlighten me.. don't ask me.. i'm a beginer to... i wrote somthing about my first obe a while ago.. basically my arse started vibrating... hmmm.... (astral, not real).. i'm trying to lucid dream to, but i tend to forget about it (not good), so i've only had limited success (two very short ones) > Thanks, > Heikki Tuomela (just call me Heikki or Hessu) > heikki.tuomela@Xsci.fi [Poista X - Remove X] > > >
