I was wondering, have any of you found any 'side effects' to doing oobe's or astral projections? Things that take place in the real world, with your physical self as a result of doing them or widening your horizons enough to be able to do them? I've heard about some esp type stuff, but I want to know if any of you have had these kind of side effect experiences. The only one I've has so far is that if I try to get out before I go to sleep, I remember my dreams in the morning. Hope to hear from y'all! ~kelly ###### Message-ID: <3843185B.84E68DD0@home.com> From: dragondream Organization: @Home Network Member X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.61 [en]C-AtHome0407 (WinNT; U) X-Accept-Language: en MIME-Version: 1.0 Newsgroups: alt.out-of-body Subject: Side effects? There are many types of dreams and (IMO) some of them give you insights (into yourself, others & your current situation). Paying attention is a fundamental step towards understanding. Paying attention is also an important step in meditation. A lot of people report enhanced "esp type stuff" from meditation etc. I am more relaxed, content etc. after 'interesting' dream experiences: LD/OOBE or whatever. I deal better with day-to-day life after having these experiences. It's hard to explain, but I find it significant. Most possibly intuition would become enhanced somewhat, probably due to us being *more in touch* with ourselves. But there are far greater side effects to consider. On of the biggest *side effects* I came across was the total ripping apart of my former belief system. After experiencing OBE's, my life and the way I think, has taken a radical change, and this change will be noticed by those close to you, for the best and the worst. I have changed my religious beliefs because I now think a lot differently than what I was *brought up to believe*, I find I am a lot more thoughtful, I find solitude to be something I enjoy alot more, which doesn't make my wife all that happy alot of the time. ;-) Seriously though, this WILL have a marked change on your life and it will stay with you forever. Can those around you deal with that, as well as you? Will they *understand* what you are doing enough not to alienate you in some way, or will they try and stop you because they don't understand what you are doing? There is so much more to think about when starting to try to have an OBE, and more than anything, this effects other people, not just yourself. If that is a *side effect* then I think it is one worth thinking about before going any further. That's why I shut down for a while. However, I was able to work through them this time, but had difficulty with extreme fatigue as well. Was able to work through that. I'm not sure this is what you want to hear. I didn't jump into the lucid dreaming/OBE thing out of pure delight, it was more a part of me that had a lot of negative aspects for me. It took a long time to work through the negativity to be able to enjoy the idea that lucid dreaming could be fun and worth exploring. Craig's comment that it shatters your belief systems is very true. In fact, that's why to this day I prefer to OBE from a dream than from waking, even though I've done both. If I do it from a dream however, I can always tell myself "it's just a dream", a lot harder when you do it from waking. That's why it's not a good idea to pull someone out of their body or open someone up psychically when they are not ready to handle the shift in their reality. They are more likely to go screaming into the ethers than joyfully exploring the universe. At any rate, negative side effects like this rarely happen. The positive side effects far outweight the negative. A deeper understanding of life, a tolerance for all aspects of life no matter how absurd, a comfort zone that widens more and more as I realize just how safe the universe really is, adventures that defy the imagination sometimes, a sense of "community" no matter where you are and personal growth beyond anything I expected. The resolution of fears and increased ability to love. Not to mention the lack of fear of death since it's obvious the spirit goes on.
