My mother - now age 76 - has been through some heavy stuff in her life. The four of us (her children) were convinced that we were about to lose her a week ago. Now she is doing okay. The interesting thing is that she is now describing some serious OBEs. At the age of 76 this does not seem to be a common experience for people of her age. Of course, nobody in my family has ever followed the common path :-) She has been describing situations that find her zooming into space. I questioned her on this. She describes it as a rapid flight out of her body - into space. I questioned her even more... She described zooming into space and looking back at the Earth as the globe from a distance. She says this happens almost every day. She sees the planet from a distant point of view. I told her that a number of people have described her experience. This information seemed to reduce her fear. The odd thing about it is that I know she is not afraid of death - but these experiences seem to induce fear because of their suddenness. She complains about the speed that she travels. She doesn't like to go that fast... I guess I'm not really asking for any advice or anything. I'm not sure why I even post this... I guess I'm doing this just because I want to share. I love my mom. She, at the age of 76, is finally beginning to understand what it is like to go OBE. I didn't push her in any way. She just started telling me of her experiences. ###### From: salmun@hotmail.com Newsgroups: alt.out-of-body Subject: Re: My Mother Date: Sun, 12 Sep 1999 07:07:23 GMT Organization: Deja.com - Share what you know. It made me wonder something though: does your mother know about *your* OBE experiences? I know that with my family, because of religious beliefs, I cannot openly discuss these things with them. But with your dear mother, I was curious if you were able to comfort her with your own personal stories of some of your adventures, techniques, etc. <3 Jeff Mash <3 To email me, remove the "nospam" in the address. Thank you for sharing this beautiful experience about your mother with all of us. This is indeed proof, that out of body happens to all people, regardless of age. It will be an encouragement for all elderly people. Tell your mother that what is happening is normal, but that she can learn to control the speed of this. When one is out of the body all movement is controlled by your mind. Have her begin relaxation techniques to help her lose her fear and how to relax. Because she has not picked a place to visit, when she gets out her astral body spontaneously goes flitting about. She will enjoy the experience much more by having control of it. She has accepted a number of my stories and told me that she feels a little better about the situation. I told her to calm down if she could. I also suggested that she attempt to have a goal. She doesn't seem to understand the importance of the experience. She also doesn't seem to have any say in the matter. She just gets sucked up into space at a rapid speed. I'm a bit concerned that she goes so fast because that must be having some effect on her heart. She is already on heart medication. But I'm going to keep working with her. Thanks again, everyone. This is a definate plus. My oldest sister also understands it - but she talks like it is a 'spooky' thing. My mother feels most comfortable talking to me about it. I was wrong when I said it wasn't common for the elderly to have such experiences. What I actually meant was that "dreams" seem to reduce in frequency with age. Meditation seems to be more difficult for the elderly as a whole. On the other hand, near-death-experiences are fairly common. She does seem to enjoy it - it is just that the speed is a bit too much for her. My guess is that she is trying to 'think' as the travel is taking place - rather than just waiting till the 'zoom' is over. I've told her that it just takes a little time to get use to it. I know it was probably not an easy thing for you to tell us at this point. I find that I begin to doubt the validity of the OOB experience at some points of my own life, and it has been a large part of my life at this point. . . so that makes me wonder. But then I hear this story, and it makes me know that it has to be a valid experience for everyone. My mother passed a few years ago now, and I had always meant to tell her about the OOBE toward the end when we all knew she would not recover. But at a certain point, I knew I did not have to do this. She already knew. She described how a man came to her in the middle of the night and just talked to her about what had been happening to her. She seemed much more calm about things at that point, it seemed she must already know what she had to know. OOBEs have given me a lot of experiences that I know I would never have any other way, and now they give me comfort in knowing that we do go on in some form after this life. Bye for now. . On the other hand bart ;) in relation to my other post, sometimes its something that reaffirms life a sick person, and stops the person from becoming sick. But it generally happens like this in unhealthy people, sometimes it can make them better, sometimes it doesnt make them better and they keep on worse and worse. -- My website: http://members.tripod.com/LanTheBoy Email: Anti-chaos. Firstly, she could ask her spirit guides of the light to assist her in such experiences and/or ask them to help her to learn how to better control her experiences herself. I suggest she take both approaches. Along with making sure she knows how to setup effective psychic protection. If you're reading this Bart, I want you to know that I had a similar experience over 5 years ago...and I'm still here (knock on plastic). Did your mum give you any details of what she saw out there? When it happened to me, someone was holding me from behind and said, "this is what the Earth looks like from far away" (or something similar). I saw a small, white ball of light (not a pinpoint - but that would depend on distance anyway...) and the space surrounding it was a murky bluish-white and not as bright as the white 'dot'. I was not ill at the time of that experience, but I'd think it'd be easier to have an obe when the physical body is in a weakened state. Maybe the spirit body has high energy requirements and has to leave to get that energy when the physical can't supply it? I hope your mum is doing and feeling better! I understand why you may have felt the need to back up your other post :-) She is sounding better every day. I'm sure she was very close at one point, and I'm convinced that she could go very soon - or she may last a number of years. Hard to tell. Your comment about the elderly having "deathbed visions" (as I believe they are called) is valid. I've heard a lot about it. This sounds a little different since she seems to be getting better and is not presently meeting loved ones who have passed on. I'm just hoping that I get down there to see her very soon. It has been 4 years since I last saw her. This sounds similar to an experience I had with a star (only there was nothing "murky" about it). I compared experiences with her. They didn't seem to match.
