My opinion is, it's not possible for most people. I believe 10% of the population can do it, 10% lie and say they can do it, and the other 80% who claim they astral project sincerely believe they are, when actually they are only dreaming very vividly. Some of the people who write books on astral projection probably can do it, but most are lying in order to sell the book. They want everyone to think astal projection is possible for anyone so more people will buy the book. So, that's my opinion on astral projection. I'm going to keep trying, but until I prove to myself it can be done, I don't believe it's possible for the average person. ###### From: Jason Quinn Newsgroups: alt.out-of-body Subject: Re: Astral Travel not possible for most people Date: Sun, 13 Dec 1998 10:19:14 -0800 Organization: Posted via RemarQ, http://www.remarQ.com - Discussions start here! I think it's possible for everyone to do if they continue to try. Being negative about "the average person can't" might be part of your problem. If OBEs prove anything it's that the mind is a very powerful thing, you might be convincing yourself it's not possible when you think of things like this. I too was worried about this until I had my first OBE. After that whenever I started to doubt being able to leave, I just remeber the first one and I can ignore my doubts. Keep trying you'll eventually get it. Dan101968 wrote: > I have benn trying to astral project now for about a month, with no > luck at > all. My opinion is, it's not possible for most people. The important thing here is not whether any percentage of the population can do it. The question is, do you believe you can do it? It depends on how much you really want to do this I guess, but you must believe it is possible and you must believe you can do it. It only took me a month or so before I had my first, but I was surprised by it. It didn't happen when I was expecting it to happen, so maybe if you still think about it, but stop trying so hard for a little while you may indeed surprise yourself too. I believe everyone has some capacity to astral project. I believe most of us do it unconsciously while we sleep anyway, we just need to learn how to be more aware of what we are doing while we are resting our physical bodies. At any rate, even just attempting to get OOB would have made you more aware of your limitations and expectancies, which can't be a bad thing. :-) > Some of the people who write books on astral > projection probably can do it, but most are lying in order to sell the book. > They want everyone to think astal projection is possible for anyone so more > people will buy the book. Do you consider yourself an 'average person'? If you do, then you are basically telling yourself, subconsciously, that this is not possible for you, therefore you will probably never be able to do it. Stay positive, you can achieve a lot of things if you believe in yourself. That is the >only part of the posts I have been reading that totally confuse me. >Skylah I will agree that all of this can take some time. Even if you are initially successful at achieving OOB projection, it can take a while to get used to all of the sensations. From the beginning of my experiences I have been aware of beings that are with me most of the times I successfully get out. In an early OOBE , in fact so early I was only waving my arms around, one of these beings grabbed my arm as if in a greeting and I could clearly hear 'him' calling others to see what was happening. These beings helped me immensely by raising my vibration level. . . Another early experience I saw a form approaching me that was not any easily recognizable shape, but I experienced a total feeling of recognition. I knew then it was the being who had been trying for so long to get me to accept the signals it had been sending me to begin my OOB exploration. In this experience I heard the tone in my head that I had become used to and I decided to sit up (none physically) and see what would happen if I did not fight the experience. This form came to me and expressed surprise and happiness that not only had I decided not to fight the experience. . . I was actually aware and waiting for 'his' arrival. This was a very long experience, and we communicated through it all. I heard this as speech in my head. It was easy hearing 'him', but it took a lot of concentration on my part to respond. Good luck in your journey. I will see you out there. My experiences have been nowhere near as extensive as Richards but I have definitely felt 'presences', but not in dramatic fashion by any means.. more along the lines of how you feel when you think someone is 'looking' at you, or when you know someone is in the room with you or something. There have been a few instances when I felt as if I was guided somewhere or my movements were being controlled or influenced by an external force, but I could not actually 'see' anything. My grandfather has influenced many a lucid dream because I recognize that he is no longer alive within the dream, and I suspect he is close by at times, but have yet to chat with him while OOB, tee hee. Your posts sum up my beliefs about this too. I will keep trying but am skeptical that I can make it happen at will. I think I may have had three OBE's, but not exactly sure if they were vivid dreams that involved flying to the "other side" or an actuual OBE. I did have an experience with intense humming and buzzing, but was not aware at the time that is the precursor to an OBE. Since then, I am trying before sleep, but not much luck, so far. Keep on keepin' on! ###### From: "Bart" Newsgroups: alt.out-of-body Subject: Re: Astral Travel not possible for most people Date: Wed, 30 Dec 1998 19:12:26 -0500 Organization: ICGNetcom Lines: 31 Message-ID: <76egri$le9@dfw-ixnews9.ix.netcom.com> References: <19981213091717.08422.00002019@ng-cr1.aol.com> <3689a866.8906089@news.pioneeris.net> NNTP-Posting-Host: clv-oh42-10.ix.netcom.com X-NETCOM-Date: Wed Dec 30 6:34:58 PM CST 1998 X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 4.72.3110.1 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.3110.3 Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!pfaff.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!news-ge.switch.ch!isdnet!newsfeed.cwix.com!209.208.190.2!news.globix.net!netnews.com!ix.netcom.com!news squinty wrote in message <3689a866.8906089@news.pioneeris.net>... >i feel that some people like myself have to work 10 times harder than >other people at this. that we are locked into our bodies just a >little too tightly. That's the biggest thing *everybody* needs to do - regardless of their desire for OBE. But OBE is a bit easier when you have less internal conflicts. .... wish I could have less internal conflicts...
