Many people are so deadset in their views that such things cannot possibly exist that they are making in themselves cult-like behavior. The book is about a theory of reality and purports to explain how some things that some people want to happen might happen. What is missing from the book is evidence that those things actually do happen and that the theory in the book is not only an adequate explanation for those (at present) hypothetical phenomena but is indeed the correct one. Neuroscientists are making wonderful discoveries about the mysteries of the real world and getting tantalizing hints about how the mind works. For instance, new models of how the brain processes visual information bring us closer to an understanding of how normal cognitive processes take place in the brain, and how people with "blindsight" are able to process visual information without consciously seeing it. This is really exciting work, is taking place in the here and now, and can be tested by replication by other workers in the field. It's not just hearsay or anecdotes, or nice theories about reality, it's real information about how the mind works. Why close your mind to this? Why hide in maybes when you can have what is? -- Sherilyn -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own ###### From: hawksmoor@dial.pipex.com (Julia Hawkes-Moore) Newsgroups: alt.out-of-body,alt.paranormal.reincarnation,alt.paranet.psi Subject: Re: Writer threatened/exposure of skeptic-cultists Date: Mon, 12 Oct 1998 21:28:43 GMT Organization: UUNET WorldCom server (post doesn't reflect views of UUNET WorldCom) Lines: 18 Message-ID: <36227429.51962070@news.dial.pipex.com> References: <3620a8cc.1839100@news.pcisys.net> <361F45D9.38ECF080@home.com> NNTP-Posting-Host: aa138.du.pipex.com X-Newsreader: Forte Free Agent 1.1/16.230 Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!pfaff.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!news.belnet.be!news-raspail.gip.net!news-lond.gip.net!news.gsl.net!gip.net!rill.news.pipex.net!pipex!bore.news.pipex.net!pipex!not-for-mail On Sun, 11 Oct 1998 19:32:05 -0400, "Russell Simmons" wrote: >The writer's name is Michael Talbot. The purpose of the book is not to prove that these things happen, it's purpose is to explain a new theory of reality, that allows for their happenings. And not all of it is about paranormal stuff, it also explains things such as miraculous healings, which do definatly exist. > Neuroscientists are making wonderful discoveries about the > mysteries of the real world and getting tantalizing hints > about how the mind works.
