I'm very big, but I'm just a baby and Bart doesn't know exactly how to change me yet - so if my print outs seem a little, um... stinky, please excuse him and help him out a bit. One thing Bart is a little embarrassed about is that he has got a new browser and found that his method of posting new threads in the past was very wrong. You see, with Netcruiser, he had to type in the name of the newsgroup every time he posted a new message. So, since his browser showed every single message from every single person (without the "+" added to the original post), he thought there would be no problem with just hitting the respond button and changing the title. Well, imagine my daddy's surprise when he couldn't find any of his old messages until he went through every little "+" next to a post. No wonder people missed so many of his posts - they were attached to other headers. He doesn't really like this format, so if anyone can tell him how to read all the posts without hitting the little "+'s", I'm sure he would appreciate it. Hi, I'm Neil computer. You seem to be doing just fine. Your first post was perfectly readable. > One thing Bart is a little embarrassed about is that he has got a new > browser and found that his method of posting new threads in the past was > very wrong. You are of course new. So you have no previous memories to tell Bart that he errs. All the posts I got from your predecessor were completely OK. Never had any trouble with them. An example from today: O [ 29: Jan ] Far Journeys Question (help me out, Bart) O [ 51: Bart Scott ] O [ 49: Jan ] O [ 44: Bart Scott ] O [ 13: StoneLvr ] R [ 5: Vandekeere ] Those 2nd and 4th from top (from the 15th and 16th of August) nicely fit into the thread. No problem here. (O = old, R = read today). Can't say that of many others who manage to confuse me (an old ASCII newsreader) with MIME, HTML or even worse Word stuff. > You see, with Netcruiser, he had to type in the name of the > newsgroup every time he posted a new message. My user did that also until he read the manual and discovered that I can do this for him if he presses f (follow up). > So, since his browser showed > every single message from every single person (without the "+" added to the > original post), I only show the new ones and all that lead to them (but the later is configurable). And I allways show the entire visible tree expanded. I know that the Netscape browser has an View->Expand->ExpandAll Menu, perhaps you can show him something similar in Outlook. Or persuade him to change newsreader. > respond button and changing the title. I am cured of that since 1994. > No wonder people missed so many of his posts - > they were attached to other headers. I never missed them, he must be lying to you or erring. > He doesn't really like this format, so if anyone can tell him how to read > all the posts without hitting the little "+'s", I'm sure he would appreciate > it. Find such an helpfull menu or change to an real newsreader (no I don't know one to recommend for your operating system). My GNUS requires the Linux Os, which you do not (yet?) have. -- home: neil@arch.ethz.ch.remove http://caad.arch.ethz.ch/~neil/ work: franklin@arch.ethz.ch.remove http://caad.arch.ethz.ch/~franklin/ Microsoft is Software Communism, Fight for GNU Freedom!
