First, what can you do about lots of background noise, it is quite unusual that I have a silent moment during the day. Sometimes I put on music to drown out the talking because talking especially ruins my concentration. The music also takes from my concentration and the only times I have been able to "get out" was when there was near to absolute silence. The worst part is that if I am interupted by someone or something I am usually angry for awhile, especially if I had just spent an hour or so getting relaxed and meditating. Also, the few times I have projected, when I get back and go to the kitchen to get a drink, I walk in and turn on the lights and usually one or two of the lights I turn on blow out. One time three lights blew out and this seems like too much of a coincedence to me to belive it is not related in some way. I was wondering if any of you have also experienced this. -- -Zac I'm not insane... ....the voices in my head tell me so. ###### Path: ccw.ch!elna.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!news.belnet.be!news-penn.gip.net!news-peer.gip.net!news.gsl.net!gip.net!cpk-news-hub1.bbnplanet.com!news.bbnplanet.com!ix.netcom.com!news From: bartma12@ix.netcom.com(Bart Scott) Newsgroups: alt.out-of-body Subject: Re: Newbie Questions Date: 21 May 1998 05:07:43 GMT Organization: ICGNetcom Lines: 59 Message-ID: <6k0cqv$p30@sjx-ixn9.ix.netcom.com> References: <35639FF9.2338@geocities.com> NNTP-Posting-Host: clv-oh42-12.ix.netcom.com X-NETCOM-Date: Wed May 20 10:07:43 PM PDT 1998 In <35639FF9.2338@geocities.com> Zac writes: > >I am fairly new to this stuff and I had a couple of questions for >those of you with more experience. Yes... but when you go looking for weird things, you will find them. I've noted some of the oddest things happening to me. Most noteably during times of great stress. When one is stressed out, everything becomes important. So you relate to everything with a serious attitude. Some things will jump to your attention with a demand - others will not even see you - as if you are invisible. Attitude is the key. ..... dammit..... where did I leave my keys...... > -Zac > >I'm not insane... >....the voices in my head tell me so. Every true traveller questions their sanity. Welcome aboard. Yes, that is a major bummer. It is hard to enough to find quiet time and then the phone rings or someone knocks at the door! I have spent a lot of time in my large walk in closet for the isolation. When I am able to cancel out all outside noise, I am able to focus inward best. Ear plugs are a cheap fix, headphones are just too sweaty and heavy for me personally, but could work wonderfully. This focus inwards shows up immediately for me by becoming aware of the bodies inner sounds and rhythyms. My ears start ringing mildly, something I now know I can focus on and amplify to help me get out, and I am aware of breathing and my heartbeat as well. Inner awareness is important. It helps us to understand and master some helpful cues we encounter on the way down to get to the point of getting out. If we want to get involved in and manipulate the bodies mechanisms, we must understand them the best we can to break free. Silence for me serves more than the obvious purpose. ###### From: "Lars Rune Foleide" Newsgroups: alt.out-of-body References: <35639FF9.2338@geocities.com> <35646ec4.2624206@news.dial.pipex.com> Subject: Re: Newbie Questions Date: Thu, 21 May 1998 21:51:15 +0200 Lines: 47 X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 4.72.3105.0 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.3105.0 NNTP-Posting-Host: t2o204p38.telia.com X-NNTP-Posting-Host: t2o204p38.telia.com Message-ID: <35648585.0@d2o204.telia.com> X-Complaints-To: abuse@telia.no Path: ccw.ch!elna.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!news-ge.switch.ch!news.maxwell.syr.edu!uninett.no!newsfeed50.telia.com!d2o204.telia.com!t2o204p38.telia.com Wow, you sound like a truly psychic person. If you've got several hundred dollars lying around but no time to design and build your own active noise suppressing headset, you can get such devices from aviation supply distributors. In that case try doing exercises at night, when everyone is asleep, and background voices are at the lowest level. There are many ways to do it - Robert Monroe used to wake up in the middle of the night, and being relaxed, and restful was attempting to project. I prefer this strategy, though you need to be patient and not to push hard, just let it go and be open to this possibility. I noticed that when I push hard, rarely I succeed. My first OBE was after very exhausting, hard trying. I was relaxing for so long, that my body was extremely tired, and paradoxally, although I was relaxing, my body felt very tense - probably it was some mild paralysis... Anyway I had enough, changed position from lying on my back to embrional, and tried to get some rest in sleep. I was so exhausted, that I didn't care for anything, just wanted to sleep. Then vibrations came, and I was literally swept out my body through very long tunnel, notabene the only one time, when I went through the tunnel. But I'm digressing. What I'm trying to say is that it is good to have an unbending intent to have OBE, but otherwise not to push hard to achieve one, but instead to be open for possibility to achieve it - so you remember about your goal, and when the opportunity comes, you use it. There are very good tricks that allow to have OBE - personally I prefer this one: when, while being asleep, you realize that you are dreaming, look at your hands - bring them up to your eyes, and observe for a moment. This creates a 'boost', and you no longer are in a dream - you are 'somewhere'. Now look around, but be careful not to look at something for too long - if you do so, your view becomes blurred. The only way to stop you from falling back to your body is to look at your hands again. But looking too long at your hands also blurrs your view. To avoid it you can look on one hand at a time, and when it starts to deform, look at the other one, and so on. When you are sure that you can keep your vision from blurring, you can look at your surroundings, swiftly changing objects that you do observe. This is very powerful way of getting into OBE, and doesn't require the relaxation exercises - you do them automatically when going asleep. The problem is 1. to become aware that you are asleep - the so called lucid dream, and 2. to remember (after getting over 1.) to look at your hands. There is an exercise, that helps to get over this problem: may times a day check reality of your situation - are you asleep?, can you fly?, is gravitation working?, how my hands look like? - those questions may sound stupid, but when it turns into habit, there is a good possibility, that you will ask them also when you are in a lucid dream, and find that you are asleep, and then you look at your hands almost automatically. I had quite fun OBE's while travelling by tram - I usually fall asleep (you know - the rythm of wheels), and find myself in lucid dream, look at my hands and ... Have fun Leszek ------------------------------------------- Leszek Cyfer Eternal Student from Poland lehcyfer@aurora.put.poznan.pl -------------------------------------------
