Finally stumbled upon your message. Deja News is an internet site where you can view all the posts. You need a browser to access it. Once there, just place in the search dialog "alt.out-of-body" and bingo. It's unbelievable! Half the posts don't come through my server. It's very annoying. Sometimes, the underscores get lost if the whole thing is underlined. I didn't think of this when I originally picked the address and when I figured it out, everyone already knew me under that address so I didn't want to change it. If that doesn't work, let me know as I have not heard of any other probs with it. -Evelyn The Hermit wrote in article <351df306.8005623@syd-news.tpgi.com.au>... > >Hey, what's this about Deja News? Is it your server? Why doesn't > your server, uh, serve you? Its most likely his server, or that servers server, or that ... The problem with Usenet/News servers is that many of them are running _very_ near (and some _over_) their load capacity (my old news server was digesting 6 gigabytes a day, so the operator, when asked why it crashed so often). So they start dropping messages. Even worse, every message travels on its way from its poster to an average reader goes through over 10 servers (Gail to me is 8, Hermit to me is 15). Anyone of them can sabotage delivery. Usually that means that you lose posts from different posters with an different propability. Up to a week ago I was using such an unreliable server, I assumed it to be losing ca 5..10% of posts. Now I have changed job and am using the news server at my new employer (I dial in from home, nor read/post at work). Result: I am now recieving +50% of posts, so I was losing a full 30%. There is only one solution for people who want all messages: find an other news server. That could be difficult (it was pure accident for me). -- private: Neil.Franklin.remove.this@ccw.ch http://www.ccw.ch/Neil.Franklin/ office: franklin.remove.this@arch.ethz.ch http://caad.arch.ethz.ch/~franklin/
