Also in what context do you offer reiki - i.e. do you receive clients via medical referrals, at a 'drop in' canter, by advertising locally or just by word of mouth? I'll tell you my story. I suffered from depression for nearly two years. I finally started to Reiki myself ( had been Teacher level for about five years before that ) and I gradually started to see things in a different light and climbed out of the hole. I haven't felt depressed since. I also was psychologically "addicted/dependent" to Marijuana and smoked it for about eight years ( due to factors in my home life ) :( Out of desperation, about a year ago, I asked for help from Reiki whilst lying on my bed. What followed was about five minutes of a someone-just-walked-over-my-grave/cool shiver feeling ( that felt fabulous! ) and a feeling of complete and utter joy and acceptance of myself ( words limit my expression of the feeling... indescribable and the most amazing feeling I've *ever* had ). The rest is history. Straight after this I had no incling to touch the stuff and haven't since. I even tested myself the next day and it tasted horrible and made me feel sick :))) Oh, another story! I also sliced my index finger to the bone whilst at my last job and severed my digital nerve. Microsurgery followed and I was told I would have no feeling in my finger for 18 months or more ( if any ). After three weeks of daily Reiki-ing my finger, it was completely healed (!); feeling was normal, no discomfort and wound completely closed/healed with no scab. That's really great to hear, although I have no doubt as to the power of reiki for self-healing. Even so, it's still always very heartening to hear of success stories like your own. I think very often a reiki attunment acts as a life-nexus and gives you the necessary oversight to realise that there is a lot more to life than you previously realised. This often gives you the boost that you need to make positive changes in your life.... It's also good to hear about your finger! I think that reiki has huge potential to be used as a post-operative therapy. This is slowly starting to break through into mainstream medical ideology, but it's a long hard battle! I use Reiki in my professional practice...I'm a massage therapist as well as RM. Examples - I worked just a few sessions with a young woman who could not be touched and within a few sessions I was able to do a full hands-on treatment. I worked with two women who were incest survivors. I worked with them for over two years each. Reiki allowed the deep memories to come to the surface in a gentle way. All three of these women were referred to me by their psychotherapists and when anything came up in a session, they were able to see their therapist within a few days to continue to work with the therapist on the issues. One of the women, when memories came up, begged her therapist to hypnotize her to unveil the story, but the therapist insisted that she continue with the Reiki treatments and let things come to the surface naturally and safely as it was doing during our Reiki sessions. I have also worked with quite a few terminal cancer patients. Reiki did not cure them in the physical sense, they have all since crossed over. But in each case, it was an incredible journey for all of us. Reiki in most cases helped ease their pain and helped them emotionally and spiritually. I think all these clients came to me by word-of-mouth...from families of other cancer patients. The time I worked with these people was over a period of from months to a year, many were already near the end as Reiki seems to be a last ditch effort when traditional medicine hasn't helped. Of course, I work with all my regular clients with Reiki for their aches and pains with many times good results. I think reiki is a truly amazing tool for helping people release mental / emotional blockages which is why I am keen to work with people who are experiencing mental dis-ease or have problems in this area. However, as you are obviously aware, I think it is incredibly important to work responsibly when you are dealing with such issues. You set an example to all of us that, while certainly powerful in it's own right, reiki should still be used within the context of other modalities when necessary - in your case medical care, and psychotherapy. I think that one of the main problems with reiki today is that people are being armed with a tool which can have amazing effects on the human consciousness without much (if any) training on how to deal with the consequences. I know that reiki is 'from the highest power, for the highest good' but having seen what reiki can do, I think that this doesn't always work to a clients immediate benefit. If you are unable to give, or don't know how to provide access to the necessary follow-up support then the healing process can take much much longer. I think one thing that I am learning on a very deep level is that reiki is NOT a game! Just out of interest, how did you make the connection with the psychotherapist? I would be interested to see how many mental-health practitioners were aware of reiki or had used it in the past... Dan, I can't speak to numbers, but my classmate in my 2nd degree class was a psychologist who specialized in children. I overcame cocaine, ecstasy, LDS, speed... I took the decission to take some things and people out of my life, and that gap was filled with better things and people. Reiki helped me to achieve that. I still smoke hash ocasionally. I consider cannabis not worse than coffee, (some) teas or alcohol. Of course, YMMV. Since I'm at it, I have another question: I reiki myself regularly, but there are days in which I don't. When I give myself reiki after those hyatus I've noticed that my urine is darker and has a stronger odour. Has anyone experienced this? So I thought of doing reiki on her hand for 3 mn and of course her hand was ok after that. And no scar at all the day after. Because I'm from Montreal and I don't think medical doctors and psychotherapist would refer their patients to reiki practitioners in here. The scientific world still don't see reiki as an alternative or helping tool for people in need.
