I did have extensive surgery on my face & head in 1958. I was dead for 17 minutes during that surgery from blood loss before the surgery. I was raised in a Christian Fundamentalist sect, and outside of school books the only book I was allowed to read was the bible... so there wasn't much information inside my head all things considered. One summer night during my 13th or 14th year, I camped out in my parents back woods. It was 40 some acres of wooded farm land that hosted two swamps separated by some small hills. Oak trees abound, some with trunks 4-5' in diameter. The largest oak tree was on top of the hill separating the two swamps. Downward towards the smaller swamp was a grassy hill, and downward towards the larger swamp was thicket. There was a small clearing around the tree, enough to put up a tent and make a small fire. I did so, and at some point during the evening I found myself simply sitting next to the fire, starring into it for no immediate reason. The ground began to glow as I was accustomed to see (your golden mist), and aura's around the tree's began to illuminate the entire area. The fire too, began to change color, motion, and suddenly size - what began in a 2' diameter circle seemed to expand at least twice that size. By all rights, I should have been terrified, after all, none of that was in the bible! And when others would describe such supernatural phenomena it was always work of the devil! But I was quite calm for reasons I still do not know, and simply watched the world transform around me. The flames grew to an immense size, and a brilliant bright white light emerged from their center towering above me. It was one of the most radiant, most comfortable and peaceful lights I have ever seen. Its radiance relaxed me further, and then it began to transform. Slowly the shape of a stags head with immense horns manifested, and then the torso of a human male... now this was not logical in any sense of the word, and from a Christian standpoint it had horns and that only meant one damn thing: it was the devil. But I only felt compassion from it. There was no sense of evil whatsoever, simply compassion. My gaze remained within the flames, although I was quite aware of the towering figure before me. After some time of bathing in its radiance, it began to transform. The stags head, which had appeared to be fully living, transformed into a skull and the torso as well. The radiance intensified, and I was then given a "vision" in shamanic terms. Shortly thereafter, the local world returned to its usual state, and I seemed to be back to reality as we all seem to perceive it. Throughout the vision, I thought I kept hearing "Hhhhrrruuunnn!" "Hhhhrrruuunnn!" and then not only heard it with my own physical ears but heard something quite large making its way through the thicket. With that awakening to reality, I promptly extinguished the fire and secured myself safely within the tent and eventually fell asleep. There was no logical or rational reason for the vision to have appeared in the manner it did - I had no prior programming or influence to expect something like that to happen when simply looking into a fire. It was some years later after I became involved in Paganism that I learned this vision was of "Herne," so phonetically named after the Stag's mating call which sounds surprisingly just like the name.... I did not remain in paganism long, or any other related religious branch but it did eventually serve to guide me to Reiki (where I have stayed). What was then a vision, I can now, with the advantage of hindsight, call an Attunement. I can only presume that the energy manifest in the guise it did to guide me onto the right path, after all, had it appeared to me the way I anticipated God to look (old man, white beard, hehehehe) I would probably have become one of Falwell or Robertson's competitors! I don't know why that particular image was so comfortable to me, but it was. It happened that way for whatever reasons and even though I've been through some very "rich" experiences as my Zen teacher would say, I have no regrets and am very happy with "the becoming." Although I'm very sorry to hear of your accident, through those experiences you have become a very powerful healer and I'm very glad to know that you are here. By The Way, thanks for the supplemental healing you performed on me after our initial Attunement Experiment the other week. I'm referring to the full body/system treatment where the energy basically moved from my crown to the bottom of my feet, and back to the crown. Herne, for those who don't know, was a Celtic deity who would ride a horse accompanied by a pack of wolves gathering lost souls and returning them to heaven. As many know, today I am a Family Support Volunteer for Hospice, providing friendship, Reiki & massage to hospice clients. Many of those clients have paid me a visit after they left the body, and sometimes went for a ride on the Reiki/UE to wherever they needed to go. Living over a ley line must be nice... I found a node once while exploring - that was quite an experience and fortunately I was surrounded by Redwoods which helped keep me from losing my mind (well, maybe that was lost???
