Hi all,
I'm not sure if this is the correct group, but I recently experienced
something concerning energy and healing - so I figured I'd try here :)
I've never really looked into Reiki so please excuse my ignorance. Although
I have never looked into this area I have been aware of subtle energies for
many years. My main area of interest is OBEs (and surrounding areas) and so
I have meditated and have been developing my energy body for years.
Regardless of what people think of the OBE state, it does put one in very
close contact with energies and the energy body. Over the past year I have
been using new techniques which are more of a tactile visualisation than
'visual.' They were developed by Robert Bruce and I have found them very
potent for developing and maintaining the primary and secondary energy
systems.
Well now that I've covered my background, I'll detail the experience which
bought me here. At the time I had been doing daily trance work, energy work
and meditation and so even when 'baseline' I still had a strong sensation of
energy movement throughout my body. I was watching TV late at night and I
became aware of movement on the floor. There was a moth fluttering about on
it back, banging against things before it eventually stopped moving and lay
on its back. It seemed dead or near death.
I'm not sure why I did this, I guess in part due to the strong energetic
feelings I was still experiencing, before I went to bed I lay down on the
floor near the body of the moth and started to raise my energy. My hands
were about one foot on either side of the moth, there was no physical or
close contact. While I raised my energy I started to visualise myself
inhaling a brilliant white light, it went down into my lungs and travelled
up each arm and out through my palms. With each exhale I breathed out a dark
black used up energy.
The energy I visualised coming from my palms in a very tight line, sort of
like a laser and it went into the body of the moth. At first I visualised a
sphere of light around it, but as I focused more and got in-tune with what I
was doing I centred the energy to the shape of the moths body. So it seemed
like the moth was a brilliant which outline. Nothing happened but I kept
this up, soon I was very focused and in a partial trance state I'd say (I
had visual static, bright lights moving around the periphery of my vision
etc) I then noticed the moths legs started to twitch. No other movement but
the twitching. Now it seemed like an effort, I felt an excitation through my
chest and arms and I had to focus to maintain the visualisation, it felt
like there was a slight resistance to what I was doing. I'm not sure why but
I started 'sending love' to the moth, saying I loved it and wished it to
heal. I wanted it to live. This was sort of a mantra going through my mind,
projected outwards towards the moth.
Soon the twitching in the moth increased and then it suddenly just burst
into the air in a single movement and flew off at ceiling height. I'm not
actually sure where it went, I looked for it afterwards but couldn't find
it.
So what actually happened here? Even though I do practice OBEs I am quite
'scientific' in outlook, so I'm wondering if this was all coincidence?
Perhaps the carbon monoxide from my breath somehow revived the moth? Or did
I have some part to play in healing it?
I'd like to hear others views on what happened.
Any comments would be appreciated :)

Good choice ...

Nothing to excuse ... one either knows through experience or the relating
of others' experiences ... #1 is probably better ... :)

Hmmm ... ever done the moth fluttering in the spider's web thing? The
spider waiting for the moth to tire before going in for the kill (its
own food source, the moth's rotten karma)
Interfere and save the moth for another day and starve the spider?

You are in a room full of smoke but no people. There are doors North,
South and East. What do you want to do now?

hi there "mister jingo," (is mister jingo a cat?)
i dont have any opinion or insight about that really, but i think your
story is fascinating. i'm prone to think what occured was related to
an energetic exchange and not carbon monoxide, but i couldn't even
begin to guess what happened there or tell you why i think that.
incidentally i accidentally killed a moth this evening as i was
rushing out the door. i realized i forgot the directions to where i
was going and need to rush back into my apartment to get them. a
small tan moth was resting on the door and i didnt want him to see
the interior light and fly into my apartment as i opened the door. (i
don't like bugs flying around my apartment). i tried to tap him away
from the door but i should have blown on him. in my haste i tapped
right on him rather than next to him as i intended. i smushed his
wing and part of him fell to the ground while part of his wing
remained stuck to the door (unbeknownst to me). i felt bad for
having killed him and as i rushed into the apartment i moaned
"ooooh poor moth, i'm sorry, i'm sorry!!" then i was embarrased
that one of my neighbors might hear me (as the houses are close
together and the neighbors on either side often come out to smoke)
and i shut up, grabbed what i needed, shut the door and ran to my
car to get on my way. forgot about the moth.
upon returning an hour and a half later i saw the remaining wing on
the door. doh. reminded me of my carelessness. this time i flicked
the wing away intentionally. then i forgot about it once again until
reading your post. well perhaps you revived a moth for the one i so
carelessly crushed. there is no justice for the one who lost his life
too soon, but there is balance. the one who was supposed to die
flies in his moth peer's honor!! if you will accept my theory then
i think you helped erase my moth-killing karma!! thank you.
Ginger

Interesting observation. Perhaps impartial observance would be the best
course? :)
I've got a desire to look into the whole Reiki area in more detail now, any
sources of information (be they book or website) that you could suggest
would be greatly appreciated:) and thanks for taking time out to reply.

recently having read a Tad Williams book ;p It sort of stuck as an online

After reading Stuart's link I'm in two minds. In one I'm looking for a
scientific explanation, which implies my belief is so what lacking which in
turn could reduce the effectiveness of Reiki if I choose to practise it in
the future; in the other, there was indeed an energy transfer. Either way,
this is an area i'm going to look into in the future :)

*or if confusion is not what you are going for, how about "reiki plain and
simple"?
http://angelreiki.nu/
seems to be a common recommendation among members of this group. upon
checking it out myself i can see why. exactly as it says, its reiki plain
and simple. it's pretty comprehensive. a number of people who participate
here have websites about reiki. there's alot out there.
--ginger
oh, yeah, and i dont think that looking for a scientific explanation
will decrease the effectiveness of reiki if you do pursue it. maybe i
misunderstood you. maybe you were concerned that doubt would?
perhaps it can influence your practice negatively but i will say that
when i first had my attunement i was filled with many doubts (and
self-doubt still frequently rears it's ugly head) but the doubt did not
stop a river of energy pouring from the palms of my hands for the
first few days when i was most doubtful actually. i, unlike you did
not have any real experience with mediation, or consciously
changing or controlling my energy field, so i can attest to the fact
that "aquiring reiki" has little to do with self-discipline, prior
experience with energy work, or intellectual knowledge. i think all
that matters is the attunement and the willingness to try it. whether
or not those things influence one's further practice of rieki is another
story. i think self-discipline and meditation and all of that
are nice complements, and perhaps necessary to really take it
further. i don't know. but as for doubts--i think reiki helps alleviate
them. eventually you can't question or doubt things that become so
tangible and real for you because you have too much personal
proof.
ok. now i am done. for now. ginger

Well, could I get some S&M in a B&B accompanied by some R&B? And maybe
some R&D to make it a little more interesting. And if we can do the
whole thing in the context of D&D/AD&D then I'm game, mate! ;-)

Ah! All my favourite characters were half-elf or elf, though usually
mages/rogues or plain fighters (spec. 2 handed/2 longswords) - 1 strike 1st
round, 2 2nd, D8 roll!
I'll be an Elven bard lvl 7 then!

Right, I'm wiggling me fingers, chanting (DM, I'm going for dispell magic!),
and hefting my Holy Lute of Light (wot I nicked of some fellow in't village

Rolling 1D4 (I think...it's been years!.......Lets just make it up as we go

I hit you on the head with the Lute, shout 'Cumberland Sausage!', blinding

Thanks for the reply gingerobyn! In past experiences with LDs, OBEs and
similar areas, belief has been paramount in determining if something will
work on not. It seems that a lack of belief caused a (mental?) block and so
the desired results would not manifest. But conversely too much belief or
expectation tended to force the experience into an area it would not of gone
otherwise, and so the results are generally not what one expected or
nonexistant. So it was always best to enter each experience as open as
possible, with no preconceptions or expectations. Literally to watch and see
what happened - this is a hard skill to learn :)
I wasn't sure if Reiki would be the same i.e. a lack of belief limiting or
preventing anything from occurring.
I've starting to read into the area now.

i agree. my first experience with reiki was one of the few times i had no
expectations and i think it contributed to the reason it was so powerful for
me.

Oh indeed it is, these are all good folks (Was only kidding about Garry,
he's a star guy ;), who know how to think, see, feel and discuss their way
around the subjects and mysteries of life's ways. They are also seemingly
not averse to the odd dose of (odd) humour.
I do not 'do reiki' (yet - my wife does and has promised/threatened
(?heheheh) to attune me), but I enjoy popping in here to read what these
folks have to say regardless.
