Since reading the other posts here, I thought I'd explain a little further why I've even thought about Reiki. At least you may not immediately send out the white-coats for me. The nice thing about usenet is that nut-cases are as common as toadstools in pastures.. When I was 13 I had a freakish "bond" with a friend of mine. We would play the game "Battleship", where you had to figure out where your opponent's hidden ships were. We eventually stopped playing it, because without fail we would each guess correctly 9 times out of 10 and it was no challenge. I could almost see how his playfield was laid out. Ornery cuss that I was I devised an experiment - we would each sit at home and at 10 minute intervals one would make a drawing and the other would attempt to copy it - from across town. For a week we did this every day, and while not scientific, the hit rate was ridiculously high. He drew a caveman with a club. I drew a man with a stick. He drew a bird on a perch. I drew a bird on a fence. etc. I picked up tarot in college and did readings for my friends. After I'd looked up what the cards meant in my handy "tarot for dummies" book, I'd deliver what seemed like a reasonable interpretation. When I did this however, it felt as if the two of us were somehow the same person, and I'd be describing feelings and situations that had happened to me, even though I'd never had them myself. Looking into that person was like looking into a tv screen. Sometimes I had the distinct feeling I was looking back out at myself across the cards.. In college I would give backrubs. Again, with no training, I became quite popular for them - because I could empathize so much with the "massee" that I knew immediately where to move and where to ignore. At times I'd just hold my hands near them, and it seemed to them that I was firmly kneading a sore neck, when in fact I wasn't even touching them. Finally, during a session with my rolfer who was also a reiki practitioner (and many other things - quite a renaissance man), he set me on an exercise to work through an emotional blockage which was expressing itself in my body, and getting in his way. We went back and forth, and I was becoming angry, confused, alarmed, frightened - when he shook his head and said it was time to relax, no progress today. I leapt up to go to the bathroom, and when I turned on the light switch every fuse in the house, and most of the lamps, burnt out. On and on with strange experiences which made it seem to me that there were wierd forces in the world I didn't understand. I could connect with other people on some unknown level. I 'felt' when my wife was finally pregnant. That it was a boy. I laid hands and visualized my poor cancerous cat healing - and she lived two years longer than the vet thought was possible. I put my hands on my son's scoliotic back and almost as if it had a voice I heard it saying "I'm healthy - I just don't understand what I'm supposed to do." So in fact I've thought about exploring this affinity in myself - and can certainly believe it exists in others. Better others - when I was "laying hands" on my cat for instance, I would get a horrible cold or bronchitis for weeks afterward. Made me realize that if I didn't know what the hell I was doing, but it was doing SOMEthing, it might also be doing SOMEthing back.. =P I guess I've needed to get this stuff off my chest for a while - I don't really talk about it with anyone. Some of the stuff I've described doesn't necessarily have anything to do with reiki, but it does point out to me that there are things in the world that I don't understand, but that doesn't mean they don't have a purpose. Thanks for sharing your story, as uncomfortable as it may be. I've had similar experiences as you did with your friend. A while back in the Marine Corps (about 17 years ago) my roommate and I were investigating various forms of psychic healing, and one day I was relaxing in bed and he was at the squadron reading a newspaper... when he returned, I asked if he read a newspaper article (can't remember what it was now) to which his eyebrows raised and he exclaimed "Yes!" We experimented a bit further with this and learned we could essentially look through the others eyes and accurately describe where the other was, and what was being done (reading, having a beer, cruising, what-have-you). That level of awareness is out there, and you are not alone with it. For some, "Reiki," with a capital "R" is a formal system of universal spiritual healing energywork based on Japanese culture & ideas in the late 18th century. For others, "reiki," with a small letter "r" is a universal system of spiritual healing energywork without the colors of any social or religious context. My heart goes out to your family, to you, to your son. No one should have to experience that type of discomfort, not your son, nor you or anyone else in your family. Reiki On The Way to you and your family. I hope it helps. -- Steven Buck, CMT - San Francisco, CA "Brian Link" wrote in message news:k1codvg830ppojojjtb77i9u8jtfddlcbh@4ax.com... > X-No-Archive:yes > > Thanks for the responses to my questions re: reiki info and tables. > Since reading the other posts here, I thought I'd explain a little > further why I've even thought about Reiki. It's very interesting and very intriguing. This is definitely a place you can express these things without worrying about the "white-coats." I think you are very lucky to have these experiences--you have personal evidence that there is indeed more to the universe than we understand and that you are endowed with gifts. We all are, but without the tangible evidence it's sometimes hard to acknowledge. Good luck exploring these things further! Have fun! -Ginger "Brian Link" wrote in message news:k1codvg830ppojojjtb77i9u8jtfddlcbh@4ax.com... > X-No-Archive:yes > > Thanks for the responses to my questions re: reiki info and tables. > Since reading the other posts here, I thought I'd explain a little > further why I've even thought about Reiki.
