She initially saw the Heart chakra area as a pulsating green color-- kinda the way I see it, colorwise-- and she saw prana as red-gold, and kind of molten-- like a heat shimmer radiating in front of her; like a mirage. I saw this once in another person, but I haven't had a kundalini experience like she has had.These colors could be very idiosyncratic and individual. Whenever there is strong prana, you feel heat and a kind of tingling and redness around the area. It can even get uncomfortable-- really strong prana can make you dizzy. This is what I understand Reiki to be. With Reiki, both she and I sense very strongly that you are cycling the Heart's prana back to itself through the physical body. She has this different sense than most things I have read that the Heart is the true center of prana. I'm not into definitions though-- youy can explain Reiki in terms of Yogic stuff or Yoga in terms of Reiki. Either one brings you to a state of Yoga: to joining up with you own True Nature, and having that take over as your guide. Jsut wanted to add this to the mix here. I know that during the last two years as I've done self-healing I've been drawn, for no apparent reason, to have one or both hands over my heart area for maybe a third or half the time I'm doing this (which is daily). And Patrick Ziegler with his SKHM apparoach seems always to have emphasized the heart. But it does make one wonder why the Japanese/Chinese approach (found in Reiki-hatsureiho, in Zen meditation, etc) emphasizes the hara area (lower abdomen), and particularly the spot just below the navel, called t'an t'ien in Chinese and tanden and Japanese (??). The Chinese, and people of all the cultures they historically influenced, have wanted to focus some attention there, and to accumulate some energy there. Any thoughts about this? Hmmm, and double hmmm! I usually put my hands over my heart most of the time when doing self healing, too. Never really thought about it, just sort of autopiloting. And, as you mention Patrick, although I've not had any training or experience in his SKHM methods, I was attuned to Seichim at the same time as I received my 3rd degree Reiki attunement. This teacher and her partner tended to keep formal training to a minimum and to encourage us to let the energy itself teach us. Which was kind of hard on me mentally, since I'm a lover of structure and form and predictability, so just letting go and going with the flow was hard for me. But I'm getting better. I'm no expert, but from what I've been taught, the Chinese recognize the heart, and for that matter, the 3rd eye position, as important energy nexuses (nexi?) too. So you've got 3 dantiens-lower dantien, middle dantien, and upper dantien. My taijiquan teachers always tell the students to keep focused on the lower dantien in order to stay balanced and keep a low center of gravity, amongst other things. My 2nd degree Reiki teacher connects that area with being grounded and teaches that groundedness is an important consideration when doing energy work. She also teaches other healing systems, so I don't know specifically where she brought this in from. Don't know if this means anything, but just thought I would toss it out for consideration. Western people perceive their centre, the seat of their self, to be the heart, although most of us live as if it would be in the head. Eastern people, Japanese in particular, perceive their centre to be the Hara. If we take "centre" as a physical balance point, then Hara seems to be much closer to this than the heart. Since there is no separation between physical and spiritual it follows that ones "being centre" must also reside in the abdomen. Most Western people live in the head, some have managed to move to the heart area, but where we must ultimately land up is in the (live from) hara. The heart stuff is just a halfway stage, but because it feels good people get stuck there. Native Americans to her have the most balanced relationship to all the chakras For me I think the view of the hara has been distorted by the idea you can "store" energy there//It is more like what K. Pattabhi Jois, the Indian Yogi, says about energy : it is not so much about storing it up (perhaps not really possible 2 do) but about not squandering it. I think about wisdom about the hara in this way. It's all prana; you all know that's not just air you're breathing right? And it's important to get it all the way down inside; you can feel it if you do good pranayama. You are most struck by how deep it goes, and how healthy it is, if you concentrate on the hara (or better yet the root chakra'; the base of spine).
