It's not going to do much without one. Perhaps go to www.freedos.org & download "FreeDos". Alternitively if you want to turn it into a CP/M-86 box you can download a copy of CP/M-86 from here: http://www.cpm.z80.de/binary.html & up could then get more tools to enhance it up plus software from here: http://www.seanet.com/~klaw The advantage CP/M-86 has over FreeDos is it's smaller, but it maybe trickier to install (given the age of CP/M-86). If your lucky somewhere on the 'net (which I'm not sure where) you could also download DR-DOS 7.03 which might be better than FreeDos in that (like CP/M-86) it was commercial. But the bottom line is, you'll have to install an Operating System before the 286 can go anywhere! :-) Regards, Ross. ###### From: "Helmut P. The machine has "forgotten" all its settings, probably due to a dead or extremely weak battery. Click the link to rf5060a.exe on http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/GSMH-38GKPL.html and download the file. Double-click the downloaded *.exe to create a reference disk. Make sure that you *DO NOT* look at the created disk in any flavor of Win9x, NT or the like Explorer unless the disk is write protected! In that machine its a standard camera battery available at any Radio Shack or well equipped supermarket. Snaps into a little holder where the speaker is. You'll also need the Reference disk for that machine to get it to reconfigure itself - images of these are on the IBM site. The IBM site will want the whole model number of the machine to get you to the support site for it. On the bottom front edge of plastic chassis, you'll see a little rectangular sticker with the serial number and model number -- in this case the model number will be something like 8550-021 the last 3 digits/letters will change by specific sub-model and designate things like installed memory/drives.
