A 23-year computerless hiatus elapsed between my first experience with computers on an IBM 1620 and keypunch and acquisition of a (by then obsolete) Osborne 1. Soon I had a fleet of 9 that provided me with entry to C, lisp, assembler and, using the O1 as a dialup terminal, to Unix and the net. Thank you, Adam Osborne. (Reference to Adam Osborne attending the famous Homebrew Computer meetings around 1975, I think.) Excerpt from page 109: "Some, like Adam Osborne, a tall, dark-haired man with a British accent, had commercial reasons for attending: From a cardboard box, Osborne fished copies of his book about microcomputers and sold them to club members." ###### From: Larry__Weiss Newsgroups: alt.folklore.computers Subject: Re: Wherabouts of Adam Osborne Date: Thu, 02 May 2002 04:16:02 -0500 Organization: Airnews.net! at Internet America Lines: 9 Message-ID: X-Orig-Message-ID: <3CD103D2.73F0D003@airmail.net> References: <6c39945b.0203212225.57f10860@posting.google.com> Abuse-Reports-To: abuse at airmail.net to report improper postings NNTP-Proxy-Relay: library1-aux.airnews.net NNTP-Posting-Time: Thu May 2 05:28:56 2002 NNTP-Posting-Host: !Z%"G1k-X7LHI^n1-bL5 (Encoded at Airnews!) I don't know where my copy is. Speaking of books about Apple, I was just reminded of the time when there was a pocket size paperback book about Steve Wozniak, "Woz : The Prodigal Son of Silicon Valley" by Doug Garr, came out in 1984. I've recently noticed how very few books are now printed in such a small size, everyone wants "trade paperbacks now it seems", but there was a time when you could find all kinds of neat books in that format. But, that book about Woz seemed like the sort of thing that would be thrown together real fast as a popstar makes it big; I suppose the book did come out because of Woz and the US Festivals.
