Sure you can get your deleted mails back. Just restore them from the backup tapes. You will lose mails that have arrived since the backup (which is hopefully an daily one). If you are a normal (i.e. non system) user, as you not knowing the answer suggests, you will have to ask the system staff to restore for you. Or if your site has an backup archive robot, they may show you how to run restores yourself. -- Neil Franklin, neil@franklin.ch.remove http://neil.franklin.ch/ Hacker, Unix Guru, El Eng HTL/BSc, Sysadmin, Archer, Roleplayer - Intellectual Property is Intellectual Robbery ###### Message-ID: <3C4B7463.845E53FA@ev1.net> From: Charles Richmond Reply-To: richmond@ev1.net Organization: Cannine Computer Center X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.7C-CCK-MCD {C-UDP; EBM-APPLE} (Macintosh; I; PPC) X-Accept-Language: en MIME-Version: 1.0 Newsgroups: alt.folklore.computers Subject: Re: outlook express help References: <12cf0e7d.0201201027.6180bc1f@posting.google.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Lines: 20 NNTP-Posting-Host: 12.237.69.87 X-Complaints-To: abuse@attbi.com X-Trace: rwcrnsc53 1011570722 12.237.69.87 (Sun, 20 Jan 2002 23:52:02 GMT) NNTP-Posting-Date: Sun, 20 Jan 2002 23:52:02 GMT Date: Sun, 20 Jan 2002 23:52:02 GMT Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!pfaff.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!news-ge.switch.ch!newsfeeds.belnet.be!news.belnet.be!news-spur1.maxwell.syr.edu!news.maxwell.syr.edu!newsfeed.direct.ca!look.ca!wn1feed!worldnet.att.net!204.127.198.203!attbi_feed3!attbi.com!rwcrnsc53.POSTED!not-for-mail Xref: chonsp.franklin.ch alt.folklore.computers:99355 Chris Hedley wrote: > > According to Intimidator 3 : > > i have windows ME. i also have outlook express. on accident i deleated > > my saved mail folder. is there any way to get this back ? or is it > > gone for good ? > > Sigh... this is one of the disadvantages of AFC being one of the first > alphabetically listed newsgroups with "computers" in the title, especially > just after Christmas (the "new September") > > No, I don't know anything about Outlook or ME, sorry. > I know enough about Outlook Express to stay the hell away from it!!! -- +-------------------------------------------------------------+ | Charles and Francis Richmond | +-------------------------------------------------------------+ ###### From: "Bill Marcum" Newsgroups: alt.folklore.computers References: <12cf0e7d.0201201027.6180bc1f@posting.google.com> Subject: Re: outlook express help Date: Sun, 20 Jan 2002 19:08:37 -0500 Lines: 13 X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.0913.2206 x-mimeole: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.00.0913.2200 NNTP-Posting-Host: lou-ts14-27.iglou.com X-Original-NNTP-Posting-Host: lou-ts14-27.iglou.com Message-ID: <3c4b5b43_2@news.iglou.com> X-Trace: news.iglou.com 1011571523 lou-ts14-27.iglou.com (20 Jan 2002 19:05:23 -0500) X-Original-NNTP-Posting-Host: 204.255.238.225 Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!pfaff.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!newscore.univie.ac.at!news-spur1.maxwell.syr.edu!news.maxwell.syr.edu!news-out.visi.com!hermes.visi.com!uunet!ash.uu.net!news.iglou.com Xref: chonsp.franklin.ch alt.folklore.computers:99277 Intimidator 3 wrote in message <12cf0e7d.0201201027.6180bc1f@posting.google.com>... >i have windows ME. i also have outlook express. on accident i deleated >my saved mail folder. is there any way to get this back ? or is it >gone for good ? >email me direct please. lumina3@voyager.net >thanks Probably not, but have you looked in the recycle bin? ###### Message-ID: <3C4B5FD5.1060105@beagle-ears.com> Date: Sun, 20 Jan 2002 16:24:53 -0800 From: Lars Poulsen User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:0.9.4) Gecko/20011019 Netscape6/6.2 X-Accept-Language: da,en MIME-Version: 1.0 Newsgroups: alt.folklore.computers Subject: Re: outlook express help References: <12cf0e7d.0201201027.6180bc1f@posting.google.com> <3c4b5b43_2@news.iglou.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Lines: 22 NNTP-Posting-Host: 207.154.106.6 X-Trace: azure.impulse.net 1011572701 193 207.154.106.6 Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!pfaff.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!news-ge.switch.ch!news.maxwell.syr.edu!newsfeed.wirehub.nl!sienna.impulse.net!azure.impulse.net!not-for-mail Xref: chonsp.franklin.ch alt.folklore.computers:99290 Intimidator 3 wrote in message <12cf0e7d.0201201027.6180bc1f@posting.google.com>... >>i have windows ME. i also have outlook express. on accident i deleated >>my saved mail folder. is there any way to get this back ? or is it >>gone for good ? >>email me direct please. lumina3@voyager.net >>thanks >> Bill Marcum wrote: >Probably not, but have you looked in the recycle bin? > The problem with Outhouse (and IIRC, with Outhouse Express as well) is that all message storage is in a quasi-filesystem inside a big container file. This makes it impossible to do anything intelligent to recover when that file gets thrashed. Microsoft considers that a security feature. The appropriate answer is: This is a learning experience. Never use Microsoft-developed mail clients. Try Eudora instead.
