On 22-AUG-2001 we transported it from Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, CT to our facility in Providence, RI. Information about the system and images taken during the move can be found on the RCS "works-in-progress" website http://starfish.rcsri.org/rcs/DECsystem/1090/ It was used for helicopter simulation from 1985-1994. It was part of a hybrid computer facility that also included two AD-4 analog computers. This DECsystem-1090 is configured with 1.5M word of memory. The following image shows the three cabinets that comprise the KL10 processor and the six 256KW core memory cabinets. The tall cabinets span about 23'. A pdp-11/34 based remote station can be seen at the far end of the row. Behind the band printer there is a general purpose parallel interface cabinet. (note: the images are about 1/4 MB each) http://starfish.rcsri.org/rcs/DECsystem/1090/images/raw/21-AUG-2001/RIMG0019.JPG The KL10 contains a pdp-11/40 front end processor. http://starfish.rcsri.org/rcs/DECsystem/1090/images/raw/21-AUG-2001/RIMG0024.JPG There are three 178MB removable disk drives and one 508MB fixed disk drive. A disk pack can be seen on top of the fourth cabinet; it is 10' to that point. http://starfish.rcsri.org/rcs/DECsystem/1090/images/raw/21-AUG-2001/RIMG0021.JPG The four blue trimmed cabinets contain two more pdp-11/34 based communications processors and related interfaces. Next is a 9-track tape drive. The five cabinet are 11' wide. The fixed disk drive can be seen again in the forground. http://starfish.rcsri.org/rcs/DECsystem/1090/images/raw/21-AUG-2001/RIMG0022.JPG The estimated total mass of the system is 13,000 pounds.
