I cannot speak to the fate of The Computer Museum in Boston, but I can say that The Computer Museum HISTORY Center is very much alive and well in Mountain View California. The Center became an separate non-profit entity earlier this year. You can learn about the History Center by visiting our new web page at http://www.computerhistory.org. The History Center is focused exclusively on preserving, maintaining, documenting, and making available to the general public and interested individuals the history of computing through collection of artifacts, ephemera, and histories (personal, corporate, and electronic). Yesterday 20 volunteers and the History Center staff moved the about 2,000 linear feet of documentation and shelving, a Multics mainframe, several other peripherals, a Cray, several pieces of unit record equipment into a new building NASA is making available to the History Center (http://www.computerhistory.org/events/core/1.1/exhibit/index.page). This additional 10,000 square feet of storage area will allow us to return our ongoing history of computing lecture series back among the artifacts in Visible Storage at Moffett Field. If you're interested in learning more about The Computer Museum Center please visit our web page, or to volunteer at one of our upcoming volunteer work parties send email to volunteer@computerhistory.org.
