To those on the GCC mailing lists this was not really a surprise - Linas Vepstas has been prodding us with improvements to the i370 backend for about a year now. Given his involvement with Linux, the implication was clear. The interesting thing is that this is the first port of Linux to a vector architecture (at least one "of old").
