It was posted by someone in response to a typical newbie rant. It claimed to be a 'clue' since the newbie was in clear need of one. Its format was a pseudo form-letter in plain ASCII with boxes and checkmarks made with brackets and X's like this: Your recent post was: [x] Peurile. [ ] Self Indulgant [x] Obscene [x] and boring. [x] and lacked adequate knowledge of anatomy. Anyway, what with the huge numbers of folks around on the net who need a clue, I thought I would dig it up from my old archives. Sadly though, it wasn't there. Sometime in the last decade I lost my clue, and I never even knew it. I could probably recreate a pale imitation, but I would love it if anyone has a copy of the original lying around that they could send me. ###### Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!usenet From: Neil Franklin Newsgroups: alt.folklore.computers Subject: Re: I haven't got a clue... I pull news from three different servers and they all seem to do an excellent job. I have never disguised my address. 5 years ago I got very little. 3 years ago, on the other hand.... Like you, I have never disguised my e-mail addresses. What I do find interesting is that the spam that still trickles through is more than likely addressed to an older (but still active) email address. I gave up bang-paths someplace between 89 and 91 (if I can trust my memory) and registered the domain name "dumbcat.sf.ca.us" at that time. I stopped using , for the most part, in 1996. Yet I'd guess 40% of the spam I get still uses that address. // marc ###### From: oexel@economatica.com.br (Otavio Exel) Newsgroups: alt.folklore.computers Subject: Re: I haven't got a clue... You give spambots too much credit. A better domain to chose would be, for example, "example.net", which is guaranteed (by the IANA) to never point to a real machine. > I did change accounts a couple of times though. Some of these undoubtedly dredge up E-mail addresses through some Usenet archive. I still get spammed at E-mail addresses that I haven't posted from in 6 or 7 years now.
