Its serial number is 764-f-10335. It is 8K by 12 bits Is it a PDP-8 board? Yes, it's from a PDP-8. The H-212 only has core and diode arrays on it, so you need two more boards to complete the set, one contains sense amplifiers, the other contains address decoders. > Does anyone know > what version of 8 would it fit > when/where it was built > original cost The board fit the PDP-8/E, PDP-8/F and PDP-8/M. The original PDP-8/E came out in 1970, and the PDP-8/A displaced these machines around 1976; although bus-compatable, the core boards for the 8/A were larger format and packaged the memory on 2 boards instead of 3. PDP-8/E core boards were made by third-party manufacturers under contract with DEC. I don't know where the boards themselves were made. The finished systems were assembled in Maynard Massachusetts, Puerto Rico and, I think, Ireland. The minimal complete computer sold for around $7000 in 1970, and the prices dropped to under $5000 by 1975. I think the core memory board cost accounted for about $1000. In any case, your core board is most likely to be as good as new, unless someone has removed the plexiglass cover over the core plane itself. If it's still good, it probably still holds the data from the last time it was used, since core doesn't forget unless mishandled. There are people (me included) who've got spares of the sense amplifier and address decode boards, and given these, the board could be put back in service. There are plenty of working PDP-8 systems out there, a surprising number still in production use. I think I've succeeded in talking someone into doing the HP 21XX family, for example, and if I could find someone to do the CCC/Honeywell DDP-516 family, I'd love it.
