There has always been the pyramid scams and off-topic crossposting, but generally this seems to be one of the most stable NG's. Things may change in life and love, but the core of the experience shines through. Last year I thought there was definitely a conspiracy of some sort. Articles disappearing, and threads magically not showing up on the servers. After a while, it just became part of the nature of the newsgroup flow. For me right now, it is most definitely a server problem. So easy to get sidetracked psychically, knowing that there are people out-to-get-me. Some people out there just don't grow-up, down, or go sideways. They like to stay where they are, cause it is safe. To answer your question. Yes. We are being sidetracked and scammed and corrupted. On purpose? Maybe that is true too. The NDE is downright amazing. Some external postings seem pale in comparison. Downright diametrical. This is Usenet, a klunky old system of overloaded computers, every one shoveling the entire tons (6 gigabyte/day) of messages around. The surprising thing is not the disappearing messages, its those that do appear! At the moment analysing the References: fields suggest that I am subject to ca 5% message loss; that is with exeption of the bi-weekly newsfeed crashes that lose 100% for a day or two. So no one is out to get you. Who should be?
