Dromedaries are 1-humped chumps, Bactrians though - they have have 2 humps, But I swear on gilt enamel There isn't any 3-humped camel! (with apolgies to Ogden Nash) But if anyone wants to asciify a 3-humper... please - be my guest! ---- Many folk will recall the original Nash ditty: The one-L lama, he's a priest, The two-L llama, he's a beast, But I'll bet a silk pyjama There isn't any three-L lllama. It has been told me that they DO have these in Chicago - when a big enough fire breaks out that they need 3 engines (or more) to attend, it's known in the fire service there as a "three-alarmer"! Anyway, the Nash poem isn't much of a mnemonic, because you still might mix up the first 2 lines of the poem quite easily. So for a true mnemonic, recall: "Double the number of L's, and double the number of Legs!" ======================================================= Not bad eh? (My own.) And, of course, it would make a lllama some sort of insect! For a mnemonic on the camels, just remember that bactrians, from Bactria, i.e. mostly Afganistan, have more hills on them, to go with the hilly terrain there, (especially as opposed to Arabia!!) So now you know. And let's see a pic of that 3-humper... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bill Taylor W.Taylor@math.canterbury.ac.nz ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Humpty Dumpty was PUSHED ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ###### Message-ID: <3BF9A6C1.2010107@usa.net> From: Peter Henderson User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:0.9.3) Gecko/20010801 X-Accept-Language: en-us MIME-Version: 1.0 Newsgroups: alt.ascii-art Subject: Re: camel References: <3baa0398.0109042226.26fd6146@posting.google.com> <9n6o0c$g1v$1@qnsgh006.europe.nortel.com> <7ZYAMCAmJ7l7EwqD@zaynar.demon.co.uk> <3b98b39d$0$89043$edfadb0f@dspool01.news.tele.dk> <9nemfq$le7$1@cantuc.canterbury.ac.nz> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Lines: 19 Date: Tue, 20 Nov 2001 00:41:32 GMT NNTP-Posting-Host: 24.0.34.122 X-Complaints-To: abuse@home.net X-Trace: news1.rdc1.sfba.home.com 1006216892 24.0.34.122 (Mon, 19 Nov 2001 16:41:32 PST) NNTP-Posting-Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2001 16:41:32 PST Organization: Excite@Home - The Leader in Broadband http://home.com/faster Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!pfaff.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!newscore.univie.ac.at!howland.erols.net!newshub2.home.com!news.home.com!news1.rdc1.sfba.home.com.POSTED!not-for-mail Xref: chonsp.franklin.ch alt.ascii-art:24358 Bill Taylor wrote: > Dale Hennessey writes: > > |> Dromedary camels are one-humped.
