No, I am not talking about bandwidth and download times. I access newsgroups from a school account, on a fast connection, for free. I am talking about the way I see one person post an image, and then five people follow up to that and quote the entire image. That's six times I see the same image. By that time it stops being a nice image and starts becoming a source of irritation - because I HAVE ALREADY SEEN IT! Give me something NEW instead! Sure, occasionally some post doesn't reach Your Specific Server, with the result that you don't get to see it. There are better ways to solve that problem than everybody flooding the group with the same thing again and again, and again, and again, and again... Usually the good ones get comments. Plenty of them. So it's likely that you'll see at least one follow-up. That follow-up contains the Message ID of the original post. You can then use one of the forms on this page to get that post directly from Deja: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/cgi/search/ No need to *search*, you get the correct post with one click, and in a readable format (plain text). Also, didn't somebody recently post the URL of a "best of aaa" directory on the web? Actually, I can imagine a couple of exceptions: Diddles and crossposted threads. But then, diddles aren't really "reposts", since they add something new to the images and most of the threads here are not crossposted (not counting the animation group and the binaries group, since I see them more as "sub-groups" of aaa). -- (, http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/cgi/asciichat/ /|__--__ . __--__ |\ '__ /|\ _{ _ `.' / `.,_ _________ | _________ _,.' It has been going quite a time. It is a bit annoying, but seems to be a.aa standard. > Do you have a DTD for this Newsposting Markup Language? (NML? NPML?) Du to problems with the standardisation process, there are multiple competing DTDs for it. The most known are the OED and Websters. -- Neil Franklin, neil@franklin.ch.remove http://neil.franklin.ch/
