This seems to be entirely an U.S. thing. What is it : actually in aid of (officially that is, inofficially it seems to be : just a costume party)? Halloween = All Hallow's Eve, the evening before All Hallow's Day (although nowadays it's the evening before All Saint's Day) - traditionally believed to be the time when the forces of darkness (witches, devils, ghosts etc.) got together for a sabbat/annual bash. Jack O Lantern's were originally devised to help scare off these evil spirits etc. But nowadays it's just an excuse to dress up as the aforementioned spirits, also ironically many people still build Jack-O-Lanterns (hence in the few weeks preceeding it, shops go mad with stocking pumpkins). But over the past few decades a new influence has appeared: in the form of Richard O'Brien's Rocky Horror Picture Show - and lots of venues offering RH theme discos (including UWA), which essentially means blokes also have the option of attending halloween functions in drag... : Join an Life-Action Roleplaying group to do it every few weeks. UWA has a LARP group that usually meets at least once a week in a local woodland nature reserve... ...although I'm not really into LARPing myself, it is one of the more popular clubs here... I just recently bought a new Nokia inner tube for my bicycle. Up to about a decade ago, back when specialization wasn't the buzzword of the day yet, they had divisions making all sorts of things from televisions to tyres. A few weeks ago I spotted an old rusty toilet paper dispenser with the Nokia logo on it. I though it could be fun to borrow a Nokia 9000 communicator, place it on top of the dispenser and take a photo of them together. Alas, I had neither a Nokia 9000 nor a camera available. I tried drawing their logo as ObAscii, but the letters are harder than they look to get right.
