"newline space space blank newline" is the official sign for "begin of sig block". Various Newsreaders (and Mailers) treat text after it different: Such as showing it in an dimmed colour (as mine does), not auto-quoting it on pressing relpy/followup (as I have seen others do). So putting your message after it screws up readers - Bad idea. BTW: Leaving someone elses -- in an quoted message messes up all your text after it. And putting an quoted message entirely after your -- (this violates temporal arrangement anyway) screws up the entire quote. Both are the sign of an not yet clued up newbie (who may well be an eternal newbie with many years online). -- Neil Franklin, neil@franklin.ch.remove http://neil.franklin.ch/ ###### From: ppunk@damnthatspam.hetnet.nl (Peter Punk) Subject: Re: Deja News appears to be fixed Date: Thu, 30 Sep 1999 01:56:39 +0200 Organization: Total Disorganisation Message-ID: References: <37DAA282.41B5@iNOdirect.ca> <37DE8359.4154@iNOdirect.ca> <7slso8$ush$1@news4.svr.pol.co.uk> <0dHvN47yNILSBMJtAYMwMUpW3qxO@4ax.com> <6u3dvyew4a.fsf@chonsp.franklin.ch> X-Newsreader: Forte Agent 1.6/32.525 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Newsgroups: alt.ascii-art NNTP-Posting-Host: hrv0243-1.dial.wxs.nl 195.121.186.243 Lines: 36 Path: chonsp.franklin.ch!pfaff.ethz.ch!news-zh.switch.ch!news-ge.switch.ch!isdnet!newsfeed.tli.de!newsfeed2.news.nl.uu.net!sun4nl!gate.news.unisource.nl!master.news.hetnet.nl!news2.hetnet.nl On 28 Sep 1999 20:20:21 +0200, Neil Franklin provoked the following text: >> >Just looking around Deja for a moment, and noticed that anything under a >> >dash-dash-space sig separator is written in a fixed width font. >> >Could cause other problems though. >> Only if _you_ want to :-) >Or if the recipients Newsreader wants to.
